Yeah, I know that and it's unlikely that he'll move. BUT if Stoke did get Berahino then they may let him go on loan and he may agree if the likelihood of getting any minutes were significantly reduced for a bit part player.

Plenty of strikers out there we could maybe attract.

Vokes, Ighalo, Hernandez, Ulloa, Long, Afobe, Crouch, Kone, Bojan... Even more ambitious Berahino, Dembele.

The only one of those who would possibly be attracted to leave the Premier League for the Championship is Vokes.

Anyone who we could give a significant pay increase would consider it. I don't know the ins and outs but I can't imagine any of them are earning what we can pay. Except maybe Long, Crouch and Bojan.

From what I have seen this season I think there are only 2 players that could do a good job for us in the premiership...kodija and Chester. ..a couple of others are possibles...amavi and grealish....ones for the bench maybe...baker and adomah....the keeper still remains to be seen but I am hopeful he could make it. Instead of making 6 average championship signings i'd much rather we made a couple of signings in January that can perform at premiership standard and then another 2 maybe 3 in the summer. We have signed enough shit in the last few years to clog up an entire sewage works.

Gestede for all his limitations has proved on numerous occasions this season that he can come on with half an hour left and cause a nuisance. We've fucked up. £6m is good money no doubt but we've made an arrogant decision thinking we can muddle through with fatty, who should have been bombed out of this club.
Yup. Gestede was the sub coming on in all of our matches that we "turned around or saved"  at VP this season.

Sneer all you like but he's got a point, Gestede was a threat off the bench but we let him walk practically as the new year bells were ringing. Meanwhile we lose 2 strikers to international duty and all our outfield targets are playing hardball with us. It's amateurish.
Sneer??
I am agreeing with aj2k77 and actually stating a fact.

I would prefer no  transfer interference, see the season out and let Bruce taking his time to bring  in players  he actually wants.  At  best we will finish  8th or 9th.

I disagree mate.  We need to stop this rot and sooner, rather than later.  The market we are going to be in, in the summer is identical to the one we're in now (ie looking at fellow championship clubs players or PL players who can't get a game)  Lansbury & Hourihane are going to look as good in the summer as they are now.  If there's a chance of getting them in then we should do it now.  Both are going to be more attractive in the summer, when they are free agents.

We also need a striker now as well.

I can live with other positions remaining as they are until next season but we really need a base to work from asap.  As someone else pointed out, all of these sides in the top 7 are stable sides who have been together for a season or 2.  I'd rather 3 or 4 now and the same in the summer, rather than another 8 in the summer.  I'd also like a few out now.

Players who we have been looking at who could improve us (Lansbury/ Houlihane) are going to have better offers than signing for a team that has only a tiny chance of possibly making the playoffs.
The only reason they would sign for us now is because we would pay them loads of ££££££'s.

That's what got us into this shit in the first place!

I'd rather keep our powder dry and give Bruce the time to scout EXACTLY the right type of players he wants and try again next season.

What better offers?  If a PL team comes in for them, they are likely to accept that.  If a championship team comes in for them, we have as good a chance as anyone, other than Newcastle or Brighton.  I doubt a player will make a decision based purely on a team being (currently) top 6.

Waiting until the summer places in the same position that we have been in for the past 2 seasons-Mass changes and half a season for the players to bed in and settle.  We need to start preparing for next season NOW, not in 4 or 5 months time.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before but I'm not trawling back - what's happened to the loan signing(s) the Doctor referred to, to get us through the AFCON period?

Another AFCON player. Puzzling but if he's cheap maybe

I'm not aware that he did refer to any loan signings.  We have lost one starter for a few games, that's all.

I am sure I read a Tweet purportedly from Dr X that mentioned using loans. but then, we have loaned Johnstone, haven't we? Let's hope they're busily working on more after what SB said about being poor all across the side on Saturday. So he doesn't really think much of what he's got to work with, does he ? Nor us.

Didn't the good doctor say they were working on 7 or 8 all told and if they got three in that would be good, four would be great? So one down and 2 or 3 to go, and it's clear we're working hard on some and have strong rumours connecting us to others. As others have said, most transfer window activity ramps up towards the end just before the "window slams shut", and other factors like the collapse of the Forest takeover are frustrating progress. At least Bruce has seen that Westwood and Gardner aren't up to it, but the timing of selling Gestede  and his persistence with Flabby are both puzzling, although the latter is now dictated by force of circumstances. The sooner we get some decent midfielders in, and the sooner Kodjia gets back from ACON, the better, and we can start to jettison the likes of Westwood, Gardner, Flabby et al for good. I still think top 6 is a fading target for this season, but this window and the summer one are critical if we're to mount a strong challenge next season.

At the start of the season, when RDM was at the helm, the Dr tweeted something about having "contingency" plans for the ACN.  He wasn't specific about those plans and certainly didn't specify loaning strikers in.  It is irrelevant now in any case because whatever plans were laid with RDM ended when he was sacked.
