I'm not someone who pines for the lost. Cahill, Milner, Benteke -whoever. Once they leave B6, they are dead to me usually.

Where this situation is a bit different is that -Everton apart- it doesn't look like many of the the top 6/8 clubs are interested in Young, so this might be one of the rare occurrences where previous good times actually count for summat.

Given the (admittedly pretty grim choice) of Watford, Swansea, Olbiyun or ourselves, we might have the edge, in so far as he was still a regular visitor to Bodymoor Heath after he left, and has been seen in the crowd at various games since then. He was settled in the area when he played for us too, IIRC.  He wasn't one of those numpties in a permanent state of flux because they lived a few hours away from London.

A loan deal, at a level he should piss for a few months might appeal.  If nothing else, it might be a tune up for a better permanent move in the summer if we don't make it back.

I'd have thought that if Watford were interested then that's where he would end up.

His emotional ties to them would probably be just as strong as any emotional ties he has to us.

True, but Watford are absolutely poxy compared to us and are on borrowed time in that division.

Talk of Watford, Swansea and the Olbiyun being in for Ashley Young on loan.

Could understand the appeal of Watford as he is a local lad, but if that is the calibre of club in for him, might be worth a bid.

We've barely turned up this season and we're still not a million miles off the play-offs. Get it right with us, be part of the journey back to the top flight and we dwarf those two bob outfits.

Is this April fools day?

Aye. It didn't seem like much of a wrench to leave them for us back in 2007 (Christ, was it that long ago) either.

All that said, it's risk for a 31 year-old to drop down a division, whichever way the deal is sold. It could be seen as the slippery slope.

It didn't seem like much of a wrench to then leave us four years later either then.

I beleive his actual quote was "No disprespect, but when I got the call from ManU I was off like a shot."

Cheers Ashley.

It didn't hurt his weasaly ex-teammate.

Don't know what it is about fans pining after previous stars from yesteryear. We should be looking for the next 'Ashley Young' not talking about signing him.

Yes, leaving for a team that gave him the chance to win major honours.  What an arsehole.

I despise Yanited and all they stand for, but I wouldn't blame any player doing what he did. We had three and a bit good seasons out of him, and had decided to pull up the drawbridge and not compete any more.

I have more issue with that fat div Faulkner taking to the club website to say that 'once a club like United come in, there is little we can do,' or words to that effect.  When you hold the players registration, there is always something you can do. Hindsight being 20/20 vision, but another season of Young in 2011/12 and then losing him on a free, or £9 million + wages on N'Zog?

So you're saying there's a chance.....?

No way he'll drop down a division.

I saw Sam Johnstone play for Walsall a few seasons back. He was seen as a good prospect then.

He's had 6 months at PNE at this level....I think that's what SB is on about having experience of the championship as I think the error Gollini made at Leeds with the cross was when talk of him being replaced started.

I do think if he does well Man. United will let him go permanently. There was a chance when DDG was about to leave for Madrid that he might've got a chance there but LVG signed Valdes and Romero and he's not had a sniff since.
The more it's said, the more it becomes the fact.
Leeds scored at Elland Road because a cracking cross came in and Roofe made a great run, dividing the CB.
Sometimes, we have to accept that the opposition do something good rather than seeking to blame our players.

Now, as for Bunn's attempted save against Leeds at VP ...    ;)

It was a great cross, but there was a clear hesitation on the part of Gollini, and the indecision cost us.
