but didn't the good doctor intimate that was in fact, his strategy - a squad to get promoted, a squad to consolidate and another capable of elevating us to the top six?

I thought we could have taken advantage of the troubles at Hull, but it seems most of the players I rated for this season have signed new deals. I thought Snodgrass and Livermore could do a great job for us, along with Brady of Norwich and Davis from Blues (sorry)

The young keeper who fluffed it for Kodjia's winner?

Out the frying pan into the blast furnace.

Looked like he had a Brad Guzan sized hole at his near post.

Let a similar one in but under his body yesterday against Brighton.

They haven't signed new deals, the club have exercised extensions on existing contracts which protects the fees they can demand rather than those players being able to negotiate Bosmans in Jan.

Gestede off to Middlesbrough according to The Guardian- https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/dec/28/middlesbrough-rudy-gestede-aston-villa

He can stand on the beach with a torch on his head - to warn passing ships.

Not sure if there is a beach there but it is on the coast.

I'd definitely take our money back for gestede. Not my kind of player at all

Would leave us very light for Jan and Feb though. We must have a replacement in mind. Gabby, McCormack and RHM as the only options would be very light.

Rudy is a good lad, done some great stuff off the pitch. As a player however, I find his lack of movement unacceptable. He just doesn't offer enough, so if we can recoup our money I think this would be good for me.

Wouldn't be heartbroken at losing Rudy, but it would be a bit weird if we sell him and acquire Rhodes later in the transfer window.

The best form from the pair of them seems to be when they played together at Blackburn.

"[Gestede's] departure could lead to the Scotland striker Jordan Rhodes heading the other way, with Villa’s manager, Steve Bruce, interested in signing the player purchased from Blackburn last year."

Assuming Karanka isn't three screws short of a dormouse, Rhodes can't be much of a player if he is prepared to swap him for Justhead.

I also don't get the logic of Rudy being worth £6m and Rhodes being valued at £12m. At least Rudy has some PL goals on his CV.

I think Rhodes value is nearer £10 million, which is what Boro paid for him (the fee was undisclosed)

I'd guess that both clubs will just look to recover their initial layout for the players.
