McCormack's problem is that he is playing out of position, he is what you would call a goal sneak and needs to be where the action is, he certainly is not a wide player or someone that can play behind the forwards.

Tom ince from Derby all day long
He's someone that breaks forward good on the ball just what is missing from the midfield

I don't disagree with this, but I think his main problem is that he's not fit enough.

4231 would suit a lot of our players

But not the '2' and that's the problem

Completely agree with this.

If we can shed any of Gestede/McCormack/Ayew/Gabby and get in Rhodes and a competent, mobile centre-midfielder then we'll look a lot better, IMO.

Something like:

Jedinak - James
Adomah - Grealish - Kodjia
Rhodes

With Kodjia playing a free-role and then someone like Brady/Judge in there too to offer the contrast to Adomah then we'll be on to something.

Shane Long might be available, having a stinker this season but burned up this level last time he played in it. Fast, direct not the most intelligent player but we need someone like him to cover Kodjia. Bruce signed him before too.

A very good shout, but I think there would be takers in the Premier League.

I agree McCormack has been a let down. But he has four consecutive seasons of goal scoring in this league unlike Rudy; and has always been a slow starter. I've seen enough of his goals and assists not to give up yet

Neil Warnock's piece about him earlier in the season was spot on - he can only play in one role and that being a second striker in a front two.

Bombed badly at Hull under Bruce, no chance I'd say. Bit of a strange one Tom Ince, suspect off field issues have held his career back thus far. Has done well under McClaren and flying again now.

I'd take Long as a short term upgrade on Gestede, much better option than Rhodes in my opinion.

Bristol gambled on Kodjia, there must be a confident goal scorer abroad (who can do more than nut the ball) If we sort the midfield out, there should be plenty of chances to score.

Given where we are, I think Long would be a good signing for the medium-term (2-3 years), let alone short-term.

McCormacks problem is he came to Villa. We ruin (almost) everyone.
