You can approach a club any time and if they are happy to, you can make a deal etc. The player just can't join us until the window opens. The problem is more for the selling club, why would they want a first teamer playing the rest of the month when he knows he'll be joining another club as soon as the window opens?

who said anything about first teamers? My guess is that the player already agreed is Johnstone, 3rd 4th or 5th choice keeper at Man Ure

It was a generic point on why not too many transfers are fully agreed before the Jan window opens, which is why I said "another club" rather than "us" in that sentence.

He is a different type of midfield player to what we have.  We need that type of player.

Heard on the way back today (OK - it was on WM) that Bruce is looking to bring 5 players in in January. Hope one of them is an experienced goalie - I'm totally unconvinced by Gollini

I'd take Daniel Johnson back in a heartbeat. Magnificent performance for Preston today , his goal was  Grealishesque (Jackesque ?)
The other ex Villa man, Robinson was'nt too ducking fusty , either !. Johnson is everything  Westwood isn't, IMHO.......Godzvilla
