He got a major injury that meant he missed almost the entire season which meant they had no choice but to replace him before selling him the following summer because they couldn't guarantee him getting his place back. That's very different from deciding someone just isn't good enough. That said I don't like us signing players who're coming back from major injuries, it can take a long time for them to properly recover, especially if you can't afford to give them a long run of games.
