All I'm saying is if people are assuming Newcastle will be beating Spurs with little to play for...what do Watford, Everton and Chelsea have to play for again?

To me, the only reason to want Sunderland to stay up is that they're not Newcastle.

On a pure football considerations basis, if I were a neutral, I'd be begging and praying for us, Newcastle and Sunderland to go down.

Us. Shit in more ways than you'd think possible for 1 club.
Newcastle. Not the country's second favourite team, don't believe the hype etc. etc.
Sunderland. Have us to thank for not being the worst team in the top flight over the last 4 years without getting relegated.

I totally agree. If I wasn't a Villa fan I would want the two wastes of Premier League places in the last few years Villa and Sunderland to go down along with Newcastle, who despite supposedly being the biggest sleeping giant in English football and having the bestest fans in English football and being every football fan's second favourite team* have not won anything in my lifetime.

*Just because most people would rather you win the title instead of Manure doesn't mean you are loved by the entire nation.

I wasn't much of an Andros Townsend fan. When we were linked in the summer I didn't particularly want him. When Newcastle bought him in January I thought they'd been ripped off, but to be fair he's been excellent for them but what's impressed me more than anything is his desire and workrate. I didn't have him down as a player who'd particularly give a shit, but he's worked very hard for them. He's also proving to be a match winner.

I think in retrospect we probably should have pushed harder for him and dug deeper. He could have made a difference. It may well be that Benetiz and Townsend are gonna keep Newcastle up against the odds. It's a toss up between them and the Defoe express. Norwich are gone.

I've always thought well relatively recently thought that Newcastle would beat us and palace but not Spurs so I reckon the most they will finish on is 37.  I can't help thinking that late point for Sunderland today will prove vital.

I think a lot rests on Everton for Sunderland. Newcastle are all but guaranteed a win in their next. Sunderlands next game is Chelsea and if you take that as their game in hand, I can't see them winning it. If they don't get a point at Everton they could be down before the final game. I think Sunderland should beat Watford. Allardyce may have to be bolder. He's playing not to lose in every game but at some point he's got to play to win.
That said I'd love to beat Newcastle to pull them down with us. But we're gonna lose that one. Nailed on.

It comes to something when beating Newcastle to relegate them as well would be the highlight of the season, but along with beating a crap Blues team in the League Cup, it probably will be.

It's how this season has gone. The more I think about it im amazed we actually beat Blose.

I thought AT would've been a decent signing. Better than we had at the club at the time at any rate.

Agreed. I think picking up points against Citeh and Liverpool saw them pretty much safe, and a guaranteed three points against us will seal the deal. Sunderland needed a win yesterday to really stay in contention but I think it's now us, Norwich and Sunderland.
