Someone who will encourage us to be more aggressive with our batting in the Championship is essential.

Good luck to Dougie regardless, a great servant to the club over the years.

Brown is leaving by "mutual consent".

I can't say that I'm surprised at the news.

Nor me. King of Spain to return?

Giles will be one of the favourites along with Andy Flower, who apparently lives in Stratford.

Would be an excellent appointment.  Glad Dougie Brown left on the high of the Lord's win and staying up after the years of service he has given.

Don't want Andy Flower. It must be Giles? Surely Ashley would want to comeback, although I'm not sure of his current contract with Lancashire? Or what about Allan Donald??

The England & Wales Cricket Board and Warwickshire County Cricket Club have announced today (06/10) that Edgbaston Stadium will host the England cricket team’s first ever day/night Investec Test Match in 2017.

Taking place from Thursday 17th to Monday 21st August, England will face West Indies at Edgbaston in the first Test of the Investec Series, which will be played with a pink Dukes ball between the hours of 2PM until 9PM, subject to ICC clearance.

The occasion also marks a significant milestone for Edgbaston as the 50th Test Match in its 115-year history as an international venue.

Neil Snowball, Chief Executive of Warwickshire County Cricket Club, said: “Bringing day/night Test cricket to England is an innovative and very exciting development for the game, and we’re thrilled that Edgbaston will be the first venue to host a match played in this format.

“Edgbaston staged the UK’s first day/night domestic match in 1997 and has a great history of hosting and selling out some of the biggest fixtures in the game. In turn, the Edgbaston atmosphere and match day experience has become iconic, with England having a fantastic record of victories here.

“Marking our 50th Test anniversary with a game of this magnitude will be a great occasion. We will be working very closely with our delivery partners and key stakeholders on our planning and operations to ensure that this first ever day/night Investec Test Match is a huge success.”

The day/night format for the Investec Test Match follows a successful trial at Edgbaston in August, this year, where a Second XI Championship match was staged between Warwickshire and Worcestershire in similar conditions. Australia and New Zealand contested the world’s first day/night Test Match in Adelaide in November 2015.

ECB Chief Executive Officer Tom Harrison said: “We’re excited by the prospect of staging our first ever day/night Test Match.

“It’s a great opportunity to attract more fans to the game and see how staging Test cricket in the afternoon and evening fits with working patterns and modern lifestyles, whilst maintaining the deep tradition of Test match cricket.

“We think it can help attract different fans and families to Test cricket and the innovation will certainly put the five-day game under the spotlight in a very busy summer for the game.

“A number of Test nations are looking at day/night Tests as a way of building further interest in our most traditional format. We’re glad to be supporting that and adding to the understanding of how this might develop in different countries.

“Our partners can also see the clear opportunity and have been supportive as we build towards this big occasion next August.

“We would like to thank the West Indies Cricket Board and Warwickshire CCC in particular for their support. Edgbaston has a great tradition of staging Test cricket and we’re really looking forward to working with them on this innovation.”

Tickets for the day/night Investec Test Match at Edgbaston between England and West Indies are available from 10am on Monday 10 October, priced from £26 and £6 for under 16s.

Please visit www.edgbaston.com/tickets or call the Ticket Hotline on 0844 847 1902 to purchase.

You heard it here first...I have it on good authority that Andy Flower is the man wanted by WCCC.

I'd be happy with that, he had a massive positive impact on England for a while and deserves credit for that.  Should know how to get a bit extra out of Bell and Trott as well, you'd hope.

I think that Flower would be an ideal coach for the Bears. As much as we want Giles back, that's more of an emotional thing. Why would he leave Lancashire where his job is only half finished? He's moved on from the Bears, let's remember he chose to leave when England came calling.

Flower and Bell know each other well from their England days and I suspect Flower would be well placed to kick start Hain's career which has stalled for two seasons. I think he qualifies for England next season so the media scrutiny will increase.

Whatever happens, the biggest challenge facing the new coach is the ageing squad that he will inherit. The batting line up is brittle and in the main they're old!

Moles is a good shout, but for me Flower is the perfect choice.

I've heard that Tim Ambrose, who was part of the England set up when Flower was in charge, does not get on with him. You only have to read Pietersen's book to see how divisive he is.

I would agree. Whats Duncan Fletcher doing these days....is he still with India. Started very well with England went a bit stale towards the end but that may have been due to getting too comfortable.
Was there for 8 years.

Flower caused no end of problems in the England dressing room. Read KP's book on this. Prefer Giles back, he's a Bear at heart. Or, would Allan Donald be interested?

There is a heck of a lot anti-Flower sentiment here. I wouldn't listen to anything KP says for starters. Flower did an absolutely fabulous job as England coach. I would absolutely be not adverse to him taking the Bears forward. I still think it will be an in-house appointment though.

I'd be more than happy with Flower, Donald or Giles.
