For Palace I'd go

Defence
Veretout Gueye Westwood
Traore Sinclair
Gestede

Ayew on as a sub depending on the situation.

Haha Gabby dropped! You're having a laugh aren't you?

Actually there's nothing funny about that because he won't be dropped.

*Cries*
I hope you are wrong

We need to ease him in gradually. Starting him at palace would probably be a mistake.

After the complete lack of opportunities created in our first two games, he can hardly fail.

There is a cup game a few days after which would probably be the best time to give him a run out.

You're probably right for once, Chris. There's a cracking interview with him on the OS (below) and it's good to hear him say how Sherwood has a lot of faith in him. The lads' confidence is sky high right now, he just can't wait to get started. If he's fit enough, let's throw him in. The thought of another game with nothing created for our strikers is rather depressing.

More cheering, is this..

Quote
Adama Traore sat down with the official website after putting pen to paper on a five year deal with Villa - and offered his thoughts on a host of claret and blue topics.

Check out his views below.

On joining Villa…

I know all about Aston Villa. I know it is a huge club with a massive history of winning trophies.

It's an honour for me to come here.

It's a club that showed interest in me from the first moment and made me feel important in terms of their project.

I have spoken to the manager and have a very good impression of him and what he wants from me.

All this have made this club my top attraction. It will be a pleasure to defend the shirt.

On Tim Sherwood…

I know the manager is a man of passion with a huge will to win. That drives him. I can feel that. He wants this team to do very well.

The manager has been great to talk to. He has so much passion, energy and confidence. You just know that this transmits to his players.

I felt very comfortable talking to him. We will work very well together.

I feel he trusts me a lot. I want to pay that back. When you know someone has belief in you and likes the way you play, it is great to work together.

The manager is building a new Villa. It contains new, young, hungry players - and I am one of them now.

I want to do my part in growing this team. I want to do great work for this club.

He wants to build a strong group. We want to improve all together and achieve our goals.

On Lionel Messi and Barcelona…

Barcelona is a club where I grew up as a person and as a footballer. I will always be grateful.

I have learnt a lot of values there - from the football perspective but as well as a personal point of view.

They taught me how to be a professional player on and off the field. Now I want to grow here.

What I have learnt from my time at Barcelona is the invisible work that goes on off the pitch. It's about the fine details.

It's about working hard, resting when you need to, leading a healthy life, having a support structure around you. These factors help you improve.

The maximum example in terms of his path at the club is Lionel Messi. That is where you can clearly see how to be a great player.

Talent is not enough - it's about using it in the right way. He is the reference to how to become a real professional footballer.

He works so hard at his game. He is humble - a very normal guy. That is something to admire and look up to.

Traore

On exciting the fans…

I think people would say I am explosive and I am fast. I want to excite the fans. I want to get them out of their seats and enjoy matchdays watching this team.

I want to see the fans cheering and screaming - but not just for me, for all the players!

From the goalkeeper to the striker, we are all very, very important.

Sometimes the forwards get the merit from the fans but the work of everybody is vital - every single member of our team.

We all need the supporters. We win together. We lose together. Being a team is far more important than any individual glory.

The glory of the team is what I care about!

On learning the language…

I know Carles Gil. I have spoken to him. It's a great help to have lads here who can speak Spanish, like him, Jose Angel Crespo and Carlos Sanchez.

They will help at the beginning.

I also speak French so that will also help me get to know some of the new lads.

But I am determined to learn English. I am going to do that very, very quickly because it's very important for me so I can adapt here.

"I know Carles Gil. I have spoken to him"

Oof, that had the potential to go badly.

what like, "I know Carles Gil. I have spoken to him and told him I am permanently taking his position. He has watched my YouTube footage and accepts he will be eating at the same table as N'Zogbia, Senderos and Tonev".

It seemed like a 4 4 1 1 but bizarrely with Veretout out of position wide right and Gabby playing behind Ayew

That is certainly how we started.

How heavily do the official website edit foreign player quotes when they give their first interview in a language other than English? It's nice to read the things he's quoted as saying but even allowing for some translation liberties I can't imagine a young kid like him saying all the fawning stuff. It's just too pravda.

AVFC U21 team:
Bunn, Leggett, Baker, Suliman, Bennett, Lyden, Hale, Traore, Sellars, Grealish, Gil

A few highlights:
DCFC 0-0 AVFC – 2mins: What a start from Traore! He charges past three players, crosses for Gil who fires wide.

DCFC 0-1 AVFC - GOAL - 30mins: Jack Grealish opens the scoring after a neat attacking move involving Traore and Gil.

DCFC 0-1 AVFC -39mins: Traore running the show. His cross is almost turned into his own net by Wassall but the keeper gathers.

DCFC 0-1 AVFC – 45mins: Close! Gil's strike is pushed onto the post by Mitchell.

DCFC 0-1 AVFC - 53mins: Gil releases Jack Grealish and his drive is kept out by Mitchell.

DCFC 0-1 AVFC - 71mins: Carles Gil is replaced by Harry McKirdy.

FT: DCFC 0-1 AVFC

It probably works like:

Interviewer: are you excited at the prospect of linking up with Gabby Agbonlahor?

Player: Yes.

Website then quotes player directly as saying they are excited at the prospect of linking up with Gabby.

Gil, Grealish and Traore running wild, it's what I'd expect from that level but I've got really high hopes of a combination of those 3 plus Sinclair over the next few seasons.

I know it's his job, and I know why they do it, but when Jack rolls out those lines in interviews with new signings, I cringe so much I worry I'll rupture something important.

The whole OS seems pitched to 8-12 year olds, which I'm sure is intentional. But yeah, less of the "famous claret and blue" type stuff would suit me fine too.

See also "snap up your tickets for the clash with the Red Devils" etc etc.

It's a minor irritation and no more, but you're right, that sort of stuff does seem aimed at children.
