I think I'd put Gestede in to start and try and make a fast start, rather than the other way around

Best way to do these is keep it tight and then do them last minute . Scoring early against them never seems to work

I'm more confident than against Bournemouth. The new boys will be more up to speed and with a little added confidence of the opening win. Noisy, full Villa Park. I can see an upset.

Whilst playing the game on a Friday isn't particularly popular, a packed Villa Park full of atmosphere at night...you really can't get a bigger more awe inspiring reception for our new players if we tried. They will either rise to the occasion or shit themselves.

Game sold out as per PRAVDA

Our home Barclays Premier League opener against Man Utd is now SOLD OUT.

Tim Sherwood's side will be backed by a bumper crowd, with the stadium packed to the rafters for the clash with Louis van Gaal's Red Devils.

Fans are now advised not to travel without a ticket for this Friday Night Football encounter, which has a 7.45pm kick-off.

Both sides are unbeaten so far this term.

Villa beat Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on the opening day while Utd beat Tottenham at Old Trafford.

Sherwood is certainly relishing this encounter.

He told us: "Our fan support has been magnificent.

"I think we're going to see that in all its glory on Friday night in a packed to the rafters ground, Friday night football - a wonderful occasion for this football club and a new era.

"We fancy ourselves against Man Utd. We fancy ourselves against any team.

"That's the way you have to be. You have to have that mentality to think that you can impose yourself on the opposition and that's what we intend to do."

If you haven't been able to secure seats for this Red Devils encounter, tickets for our next home match - against Sunderland - are currently on sale.

The match takes place on Saturday August 29 with a 3pm kick-off.

Prices are £27 to £42 [adult and concessions], £17 to £35 [U18s], £12 to £35 [U8s] and £37 to £42 [adult/junior combo ticket].

They are on general sale.

To buy tickets, contact 0800 612 0970, visit the Ticket Offices at Villa Park and New Street or BUY ONLINE.

48,000 people minus the glory hunters in the corner face yet another frustrating match against the unbeatables. I'll be shielding usual pain by watching in a pub with fish n chips in Cornwall.

I love night games. The atmosphere should be great, which will help the player. I say this every year before we play them, but I fancy us to win this. Surely Gestede will start?

Our new players have played in big games and the VP crowd and noise will give them a massive adrenaline rush. Think this might be a game for Ayewe to shine in. 1-0 with Young getting a double yellow !!

very excited.  new seats in the holte, last few evening games I can recall have been fab, Tesco bags..sunderland.  Guy at work says Gestede never lasted a full game at Rovers, so I suspect Tim may prefer him coming on against a tiring defence.  Feel's vibrant again, hope our flames aren't put out ala Wembley!
Would love a result, my lads got a game in Bolton Saturday morning and half his team support utd, so it would give him a great boost!

I secretly think we might do them by the odd goal.
Optimism has been very much a stranger in recent years, welcome back old friend.
On the plus side aswell, the omens are extraordinarily good. See below. Have faith.
14 Aug 2010   h   West Ham United   W 3-0 Prem
14 Aug 2008   a   FH Hafnarfjardar   W 4-1 UEFA Cup
14 Aug 2004   h   Southampton      W 2-0 Prem
14 Aug 1993   h   Queen's Park Rangers   W 4-1 Prem
14 Aug 1989   a   Watford      W 6-1 Friendly
14 Aug 1971   h   Plymouth Argyle   W 3-1 D3
Only Bache (5), Johnny Dixon (7), Withe(7), Waring (9), Clem Stephenson (10), Hampton (13) have scored more league goals than Gabby (4) against Man Utd. The last time he scored against them in the league we won.

Maybe in the 1980s.

I applaud your avoidance plan, though.

Dalian Atkinson had a decent record against them as well, I remember he scored in three successive home games vs them plus the Wembley winner.
