Evening Olaftab, I thought Veretout showed a few glimpses of his class and will improve in the near future, seemed a bit short fitness wise. Ayew weren't great but I think he also showed a little bit. Gureye (Gana) was really good IMO and Amavi can become the best left back I have seen in my 45 years of watching the club if he stays for 3 years. By then I think he will be a top top player
The control and move when Vertetout pulled down the ball that had snow on it from westwood was just sublime. I think that was a sign of things to come.

As for Gana/Gueye......I love him already.
But, as was mentioned in another post, can't we just call him Marvin?

That was superb and a few more games and reckon veretout will become a top class player. Richards was immense and my MOTM but the player I really got excited about was Amavi. In my 45 years of watching Villa, only seen a better debut left back performance than that from Gordon Smith v West Ham in August 1976, but he never displayed it again lol. Three years at Villa and I reckon this lad will be in my best Villa XI

Staunton and even Luna's debuts were pretty memorable!

You'll be hard pressed to beat Luna's debut. Did the asked of him really well versus top opposition, really hard place to go and play anytime during the season, and capped off with a fabulous counter attacking goal.

A winger, right back and another central midfield player and we will have a squad that is able to really compete well I reckon. Veretout looked like he could become a really classy number 10 to me at times, but maybe match fitness short of the role he was fulfilling. He shields the ball well when he has it though and looked difficult to dispossess which is a good start. Gueye looks a brilliant find, the scout who identified him deserves credit for it. I thought Richards looked very good, and very scary in both senses at times, but then I think he will give us kittens and delight us in the same game quite often this season.

Amavi clearly has some class and I look forward to games when we are more of an attacking threat and find ways to get him crossing in to Gestede, who just looks a beast of a bloke really. A right sided version of Amavi would be bloody brilliant. And Guzan did well, just seems to have swallowed the Mark Bosnich kicking guide for goalkeepers.

This. And well done, Villa. A much improved second half.

First half I think Tim got it right, try to keep it tight, press them and afford them as little time on the ball as possible, did not work perfectly but well enough, second half try to be more expressive and then the final nail for them, bring on Ruddy, smash job done.
New team for us, will take a while, but alot of promising signs and as stated I do not think he is finished in the market yet, keep it going Villa and lets go and beat those Home County tossers on Friday night.

Fully agree.
There are many saying how poor we were in the first half, but, apart from the last 10 mins or so of the first half Tims plan was working. The last thing we needed to do was to make it an open game in the first half, we had to take the sting from their tail.
Opened up in the second half and Bournemouth began to tire.

Really bad in the first half, I was getting worried about the season ahead

Complete turnabout in the second straight away came out with more purpose and endevour

Micha Richards the MOTM for me although it was a close run thing with a couple of others

Really important win down there, I would have gladly taken the draw before the game and ripped your arm off for it at half time

Hopefully the more the team play together the better we will become

Sherwood and his back room staff all look like a comited team that know where they are going, which I believe is the most important point of all

Apart from that first game for him I can't remember anything else he did well.

Well I loved Gidman at right back and saw him in the Youth Cup, but left back wise I think Amavi can become a world class player. What did you think of  some of the other signings?
I have never been totally convinced by Richards in the past and whilst he did OK yesterday need more from him more consistently. He is not going to be a McGrath but now is the time to prove lot of people wrong.
Gestede is quite menacing and fairly mobile and agile for a big guy. Let's see how he deals with defenders when they start giving him special attention.
If I were to be picky I would sat Ayew was disappointing but this was his first game so let's see after 10. As I said him and Gestede upfront could be a good pairing.

Why don't Tony Parkes and Tim tell Brad to start playing as QB and Goalkeeper instead of punter/kicker and goalkeeper. He got big throws I prefer them as it is a lot more accurate.
