Evening Olaftab, I thought Veretout showed a few glimpses of his class and will improve in the near future, seemed a bit short fitness wise. Ayew weren't great but I think he also showed a little bit. Gureye (Gana) was really good IMO and Amavi can become the best left back I have seen in my 45 years of watching the club if he stays for 3 years. By then I think he will be a top top player
The control and move when Vertetout pulled down the ball that had snow on it from westwood was just sublime. I think that was a sign of things to come.

As for Gana/Gueye......I love him already.
But, as was mentioned in another post, can't we just call him Marvin?

That was superb and a few more games and reckon veretout will become a top class player. Richards was immense and my MOTM but the player I really got excited about was Amavi. In my 45 years of watching Villa, only seen a better debut left back performance than that from Gordon Smith v West Ham in August 1976, but he never displayed it again lol. Three years at Villa and I reckon this lad will be in my best Villa XI

I only saw the second half but I thought Gueye continued his fine pre season form and both centre halves did well. Great away win and very welcome as I thought a draw might be the best we could expect against a side playing their first prem game.

The return of Gil and Jack cant come quick enough to give us creativity in the final third, also I thought both full backs were a little susceptible to having runners dart inside for diagonal ball.

Fantastic win

To be even fairer, they managed 2 shots on target the whole game. They lost, fuck 'em. They'll soon be relegated and back to struggling to pull in 6k at home.

My point was they should have been ahead at half time, sorry if you don't agree but no need to be sarcastic.

I wasn't being sarcastic. It aimed at the media Bournemouth wankathon, not you.

Fair enough, I apologise

Howe - “It’s a textbook, lower league goal"

It was good enough to beat you.  Eddie.

Sounds a bit Albion, doesn't it?

Hi VFL I do hope they both get better and better. As I said I don't think they have had too much football so far this season. I also agree on   Amavi could turn out to be better than Gidman and Staunton.

I'm too lazy to scroll through the entire thread but that's three opening day wins away from home in a row which is pretty good. Hopefully the rest of the season doesn't peter out as spectacularly as the last two years. I don't think it will.

We looked decent today without really being impressive but we know there are options available to change things and the new players give the impression they will improve as the season progresses. Amavi looks like a real talent to me

Would be nice to put some distance between us and the chasing pack next Friday.

I like the fact that we have Grealish and Gil to come in when fit. Two incredibly talented creative players. Both players will have a massive part to play this season.

Not long got back. First half I thought we were poor and could have been a couple of goals down. Second half, much better and we looked more of a threat. I think we've got two very good players in Amavi and Geyue. Overall a decent start.

Well I loved Gidman at right back and saw him in the Youth Cup, but left back wise I think Amavi can become a world class player. What did you think of  some of the other signings?

Write up from The Guardian Aston Villa’s Rudy Gestede brings Bournemouth down to earth
Sounds pretty balanced based on the comments so far.

Particularly like this bit
Quote from: The Guardian
Four minutes later, Villa won a corner on the right. Ashley Westwood drove the ball into the Bournemouth area and Gestede exploded, bouncing into the air like a kangaroo wearing a jetpack and battering a header past Boruc. It would have taken a brave man to stop him. The Premier League is an unforgiving place.

Re: Sherwood

I was pissed off when he was linked, so much so that I was hoping that we'd instead go and steal Pulis from the stripeys.

The someone posted an article talking to a guy that had taken him through his badges, and it presented a different picture of him.

That changed my view, and God knows I needed hope at the time.

But the really brilliant thing is that what has happened is that since then he's totally justified that different view and then some.

He's absolutely perfect for us, he's everything we need when we really needed it.
