The sideways pass thing was more to do with the British attitude to football in the 1980s. If you weren't banging it forward you were considered shite.

A great deal of players improve beyond recognition when a decent coach gets hold of them. If Lambert had bothered to concede not every skill can be taught by having two nutters bark at you in the piss rain, he may have been able to make better use of his squad. I think this is a good move for us.

I'm not sure what to make of all this. My main concern is with Delph who I often say plays like Ray Wilkins for 35 minutes and then Platini for the remainder.

My abiding memory of Wilkins as a player, other than his negative passing, was when he was playing for England. I think it was away to Saudi Arabia, the ball goes out of play for an England throw in, Wilkins runs over to take it and screams at the ballboy, "Give me that facking ball". My mother was not impressed.

One of the things Sherwood has committed to is bringing in players who understand a winning culture. Wilkins for almost all of his football career has been around that. So as much as he is a good coach he will also offer another very positive perspective to Sherwood and the players. We have a culture of losing at Villa that we have to shake free from. Bringing in players and coaches that aren't used to are good forward steps towards that goal.

Well this impending appointment answers one question I had last month after the end of the season. Which was did TS have  the right people in the right back room jobs? It is now clear he did not think so and has taken action to rectify the issue.
Looking at Wiki 'Raymondo' shares my birth date. Except he is 12 years younger, but looks a lot older !!!
