Sherwood played for me is best team, he hasn't got much more to work
He could have played our good goalkeeper rather than the one who cost us the first three goals, and he could have played the right-back who has been one of the best parts of his short tenure.

Playing Guzan and Bacuna almost certainly wouldn't have won us the match, but I'd put my mortgage on the fact that it wouldn't have been as shit as that.

I can't see how Given could have done anything about any of those goals. All were good finishes. The second simply brilliant - for the third Benteke was pathetic.

Alexis Sanchez is 5ft 6 and won a header on our six yard line for Walcott to score. There's no way that Guzan would let that happen*.

The second is right in the middle of the goal from a shot from 30 yards out. It's a great shot, but it's not as it a bigger, better, not-39-year-old goalkeeper isn't just jumping up and taking it out of the air.

The third is a free header, again inside our own six-yard box. Has Guzan ever conceded a goal to a free header from there without at least trying to claim the cross?

I'm not saying that I expect Shay Given to come and take the ball of Per Mertesacker's head, because I know that he's not capable of it. It's just frustrating when we have a goalkeeper sitting on the bench who would take a cross like that in his sleep.

*before somebody gets there first, yes, he probably would have sliced a clearance straight to Walcott much earlier and we'd have been 1-0 down already. The rest still stands though.

Which is worse? This or 2000?
Right now this. In the benefit of time, probably 2000 because both those sides on paper were quite even, and Chelsea didn't even show up either.
Today, apart from how shit we were, the enormous gulf in class was the biggest thing.

What's worrying is that it looks like the last two games of the season were not an isolated blip.  Something has gone wrong if you can't bother to turn up today.

The blips were playing well in about four games. We're the opposite of Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City form whom playing badly in four games would be a blip.

I think we ran of steam in the past 3 weeks to be honest. So many injuries. Half-fit players struggling through games.
We need a complete fitness overhaul. And we also need to be brutal when wielding the axe this summer. No more waiting for players like Weimann to become Prem players (when it aint gonna happen).
And all our injury prone players need shifting as fast as we possibly can. If we can mutually cancel a contract here or there, so be it. I mean Joe Fucking Cole. He should just retire. He's done his job this season in helping Jack, but we don't need that next season.
We've got to be brutal for the good of the club. And then try and sign 6-7 half decent players.

Which is worse? This or 2000?

In the fullness of time and with considered reflection, I reckon it'll still be 2000.  Not turning up and losing 1-0 against a beatable Chelsea is worse than being a poor team with a series of relegation struggles behind it being given a trashing by a very good Arsenal.

I'd say today.

Yes Arsenal are quality but come on it shouldn't be impossible to make a game of it from the first minute. We just look petrified of their midfield 5 from the first minute.

Ya I found it strange people saying that the 6 1 defeat to Southampton was simply because we were safe and switched off. We werent safe at that point, even if that was a valid excuse. A really god awful bad team just doesn't become a good one overnight.

How bad must Liverpool be to make us look so good?

Rodney Marsh can go fuck himself. Grealish is a kid. He had a poor game as did all of the side.

The comment about coming for the crosses is arguable but that second goal moves left to right in the air by several yards and is simply unstoppable.

You're probably right, but I just feel so much more gutted than I remember back then. Maybe because of how well we played in the SF that I truly thought we'd raise our game today. We just froze and didn't even give them a game. I hate that so much. The stats are so bad it beggars belief and doesn't begin to highlight our problems as a club. It clearly runs so much deeper than what happened today.

This,  2000 is worse. We played a quality side today who we all know are way better than us. We were hoping for an upset. In 2000 we played an ordinary Chelsea side who were no better than us.
