...and breathe!

Oh how I'm looking forward to the Burnley game.  Father, son and grandsons in attendance.  Proud day for me, regardless.  Come on you Lions.
That's brilliant Dave and have a great day. I am taking some youngsters from the family to get them into the Villa.

Never liked early games.  How many times do we fail to turn up.

I remember way back when we took a 5-0 tonking at Leicester. That was an early game I think.

One of the pullouts in the papers today had a montage of previous games of Southampton-Villa. Showed my Dad it at half time as the 87 5-0 game we were 4-0 down at half time according to it.

WM quite rightly hammering Sherwood

Why rightly so?

They pointed out Sherwood said a few weeks ago that this team didn't need major surgery.

Today proves it needs a big overhaul.   I dislike WM, but in this instance they're right

My fellow Villains what a strange weird day, I had talked myself into relegation between our humiliation and the Spurs kick off, I feel completely drained emotionally and physically, my dream of finishing above the bitter birds has gone but it matters not as I can now dream of an 8th F A Cup knowing we are safe, I love you all.

How does it prove it needs a major overhaul? You weren't saying that after we beat Liverpool, or Everton or West Ham. We outplayed Man City too. Nobody is saying we don't need to strengthen. We don't need a major overhaul at all. Today proved that we can have really bad days. All teams have them.

No they're not, they're just being WM.

What big 'overhaul' do you suggest?

I'd suggest we certainly need a big shape up at the back.  We still concede too many goals and today they looked like they'd only met in the tunnel beforehand.

If we get into the Europa League, we'll definitely need to boost the sqaud.

Indeed. It's always struck me how people will ignore a whole host of good results and seize on a bad one, in order to show that everything's fucked and must be changed. Today was awful, but under Sherwood we're going to give batterings and take batterings. So long as we're safe I'm okay with that - in fact, it's a massive improvement on what we're used to!

Is this team capable to upset Arsenal and get the first FA Trophy since the 30ies?

It's almost like 1957 didn't happen...

We need a defence. A left back, a right back to compete with Hutton and definitely one but ideally two central defenders.

Poor performance today but had Benteke scored that chance early on, one never knows what might happen. I am embarrassed by the score but things like this often happen and the rails come off. A wake up call not to get too cocky about being safe and thinking we can just turn up and win. We're safe, that's all that matters. Today showed me that we need to boost the defence. Shit happens. At least Benteke scored again. 15! Wow.

A few weeks ago no manager would say the team needed major surgery with the situation as it was.  Sherwood has built confidence since he came here.  Making any other comment would have shattered it.  He may believe that it does need a major overhaul but he will not say anything until after the final.

having a one paced back line doesn't us give much protection when we defend so high up the pitch. We were undone so often by the ball over the top and either deep runners, their forwards pulling away from Okore and Vlaar, or just getting behind the full-backs. Added to that some embarrassing rank bad defending and we were there for a hammering which was duly given.

Grealish looked tired, no surprise, and will have the benefit of a week off. maybe start him and give him an hour but why risk him. Sinclair and Gabby to start. Senderos and Guzan too. Hopefully Baker can make the bench because he gives us a bit of pace at the back. What we need to remember against Arsenal is that the hgih line will catch us for different reasons so winning the ball in the air isn't going to be that much of an issue. oh, and Burnley will be N'Zogbia's audition for a Cup Final spot.
