So do we now rest key players against Burnley to keep them wrapped in cotton wool or play them to try and get today's cack out of the system?

Play Vlaar and Given and keep them out of the final test Benteke, Delph and Okore.

I'll give Koeman a bit of credit as well... he played on the fact that our full backs leaves acres of space at the back and that Vlaar is one paced (slow) and exploited it.
But we were still just woeful, off the pace, no desire....thought we were safe already?

Rest those playing with an injury, including okore

It's hard other than that. I think we'll rest a few but I can see the loss of momentum being a risk

Probably:

Guzan - Hutton senderos baker Richardson - Sanchez cleverly - nzogbia grealish Sinclair - gabby

For some reason I have in my mind that Gardner can't play but Robinson can. That doesn't seem to make sense though!

Robinson wasn't classed as a season long loan, is how I think it works.

Glad Sherwood was able to see the problems we have against teams the can pass and move. Hopefully lessons will have been learnt for May 30th... Better it happen today than at Wembley...

Typical of this weird season that after weeks of good performances without managing to pull away we turn in a calamity like that but are now safe.

Now that it is settled, that absolutely has to be the last time they put us through that.

...and breathe!

Oh how I'm looking forward to the Burnley game.  Father, son and grandsons in attendance.  Proud day for me, regardless.  Come on you Lions.

In 58 years of supporting Villa, this is without doubt the most strangest day I've known. Got hammered 6-1 and I'm feeling ecstatic

Jesus that was terrible. Well we are up, but oh boy, we got taken apart, tactically for a start. Bit too open today Tim.

I still wonder what would have happened if Benteke could have buried that first chance just before the fall from grace commenced...
...I doubt we would have reverted to Paul Lamberts whipping boys for sure. But that is in the rear mirror though.

Still the result makes one ponder the finish. Is this team capable to upset Arsenal and get the first FA Trophy since the 30ies?
If that happens, will TS view the European cups diffrently then MON and PL did? Will the owners (current or future) expand the squad to handle the same gameload as the Top Clubs?

I hope it will happen. I want to see Aston Villa to win trophies again, its overdue! Not to mention that with a win on Wembly we will be one of 7 teams that play in Europe next season.

Despite Paul Lambert killing the creativity of the players.
Despite Andy Learner trying to starve us to death in the transfer windows
Despite Roy Keane abusing the squad.

So lets bounce back and finish on a very unlikely high May 30th!

Wondering if they've been trying out some different stuff in training for the Cup which has backfired today.  It's strange to see  a group of lately very confident and accomplished players lose it so comprehensively!
It also seems that Richardson may do more than people give him credit for, when he's there.

Thank you, Spurs!
And Tim, of course. He was probably stunned but whatever he said at half time stemmed the tide, at least. Without the last few weeks, there wouldn't have been the slightest chance of having a mare but still staying in the PL.

Roll on the Cup!
