I didn't get home 'til last night...staying at mate's I went to the game with.
Watched everything I could get hold of and re-lived it for a few hours, then started reading this thread. Working today, so just finished the love-in with every post and poster on here.
Nothing really to say that hasn't been expressed by you all, especially in brian green's comments for much of what I feel - he's the guy who has the eloquence to express the stuff in my head and in my heart.

I had a wonderful, wonderful day and I am so proud of Aston Villa: players, manager, staff and our fans - unfu**ingbelieveable! My face aches from smiling; throat still sore; keep getting a bit of grit in my eyes.

I'm on coach 1 on Saturday and looking forward to it!

(F**k the albion, blues and any other twats with their snidy comments - they're as jealous as f**k and we, and they, all know it!)

I just love Aston Villa.

What a day.

Did a sneaky punch in the kitchen, just like Tim tonight! Bought the Mrs some flowers and seem to be out of the doghouse after sleeping round my Dad's on Sunday. Best doghouse ever, spent 2 nights re watching the game and even listened to the 5 live commentary. iPhones rule.

You can say what else you like about them, but they weren't lucky. They were very good, and sometimes great.

They had a very good side in 76/77 and we stuffed them 5-1.  Still one of our greatest performances in my lifetime.

We had a good side in 1981-82 but it still didn't stop Notts County doing the double over us.

The difference was though, we didn't just beat them, we took them apart.  It was unheard of at the time for teams to do that to the Liverpool side in those days.

To which I can only say, so what? Yes, it was a great performance but I don't suppose they lost too much sleep about it the night they won the European Cup five months later.

For me the ain reason I dislike Liverpool is because all the glory hunters when I was growing up supported them before switching to Man U in the early 90s.
I like genuine Liverpool fans and have never met a bad scouser pool fan  however it's the brummie reds I hate whether pool or Manu.

Correct. Brummie Reds have no redeeming features. Glory Hunting Knobs.

I agree with everything Dave says above. They were consistent trophy winners when I was a Villa mad nipper watching us around 1970-75 ( in divisions 2&3) and weren't even close to being rivals or a source of jealousy. They had some great players, but consistently had incredible teams.

Shankly was an amazing catalyst but I think Bob Paisley often gets overlooked when great British managers are discussed.

Don't know why but liverpool have gone up a notch in my estimation since Sunday.
I find myself quite well disposed to any team that plays badly and lets us beat them.

Likewise, I don't think Villa were thinking about two 1-0 defeats against Notts County when they lifted the European Cup at the end of that season.

I'm not the one trying to equate one league match with being the most successful team of an era.

Considering his 3 European Cups and the way they played at times it is odd that he is.

You have got the wrong end of the stick, Dave.  I was agreeing with you in that Liverpool were 'the team' from the mid 70's to the mid 80's.  They dominated by having the best and most consistent team.  That is why our win by that margin at the time was so remarkable.  It was a different era and teams as good as them didn't get beat 5-1.  If the ITV cameras had been at Villa Park that night rather than at Derby to see Derek Hales debut, far more would have been made of the game outside of Birmingham and Liverpool.

Not been able to get on much before now -I had an ace day out courtesy of my new favourite person and all round top bloke Risso - thanks a million mate.

We were at the red end and the Reds I chatted to after were generally pretty gracious and generous in defeat, but seemed almost to have half expected it.

Marvellous to feel joy watching Villa again, thank you Mr Sherwood.  And the nice thing is we've shown we are capable of doing a hell of a lot more than just making up the numbers in the final.

Okay - another thing, and it may be time dimming memories, but there never seemed any of the arrogance about them that there was when  Manchester United were running the show. They used to win with dignity.

I certainly don't recall Liverpool players ganging up and bellowing in referees' faces on the rare occasion a decision went against them, or the likes of Bob Paisley bullying referees and members of the media. Neither do I recall seeing Liverpool fans celebrating on our pitch most seasons.

It's probable that I might get some work done today.  Can't guarantee it mind as I'm sure there's more to see and read on the internet.

Got sent this last night, very funny.  It's not safe for work by the way.

That's brilliant. Had tears streaming down laughing so much.

He's done a number of these and they are always very funny

Mind you, in the 1970s and 1980s, I don't remember anyone doing that.
