At half time, I couldn't quite believe what I had seen. Sunderland play narrow, but we cut them apart time and again with the pace and slick passing/movement down the channels. It was utterly ruthless and we were full of cutting edge.

Sunderland had three in the middle, but Bridcutt was sat so deep it was essentially 2-2 in there, where Delph and Cleverley completely bossed them. So positive and energetic, they were first to every second ball.

N'Zogbia murdered them, Bacuna was a full back who spent most of his time as a second right winger. It was brilliant to see us really push onto them.

At half time I couldn't help but remember the ghost of Mark Draper in a Leicester shirt, but I need not have worried. We very impressively kept the ball throughout, probed and worked them. Actually it reminded me of us under Lambert as we stroked it around in second gear.

A brilliant performance.

Don't want to piss on the bonfire but we are still only 3 points off the relegation zone. Remember we are Aston villa and nothing is ever easy.

If Lambert was still manager I would 100% agree with you. Mind you if Lambert was still manager we'd have been knocked out of the cup and we'd be discussing our away trips to Barnsley and Ipswich right about now on the back of a defeat on Wearside.
If Lambert was still here we'd have seen scenes similar to what happened with the Sunderland fans today in the last couple of weeks.

I thought Hull were the worst team I've seen this season & Lambert somehow managed to lose to them. If he was still in charge he would have handed the game to Sunderland today without a wimper. Thankfully we now have a manager who wants to win, rather than one who's so petrified of losing he never takes a risk. What's more, the players seem to believe in him too.

As well as we played today, Sunderland were truly awful. We have laid the foundations for survival, but there's a long way to go yet. A month ago we were dead & buried.

Yep. There is no chance a Lambert side would score 4 against Sunderland.

I have no hatred for Everton but a loss tomorrow would put them right in it.

An Everton supporting friend is convinced they are in trouble and refers to their manager only as 'that helmet Martinez'. Which makes me laugh for some reason

When the first goal went in I leapt around the room, then went out to the kitchen to tell the other half the good news, when I returned to the screen I thought it was a typo. 2 goals in 90 seconds!
I'd forgotten what a great win felt like. What a great weekend. I watched the rest of the game, then the rugby, sitting here now with a large  Jamesons waiting for MOTD. .
Sherwood is the man. UTV

Martinez's reputation was always over hyped. Steve Bruce had a better league record than him at Wigan and Rodgers took Swansea up but many gave the credit to Martinez. You don't get scrutinized too much if you are likeable and at a smaller club. Now he is struggling at a big club where he has spent a fair few quid in fees and wages his media fan club has gone quiet.

They're definitely in the mix, the goal difference does help them out though.  I'd quite like them to go down, I know 3 Everton fans and they all hate Villa for no good reason as far as I can tell, so fuck em.

They absolutely are in the shit, I agree.

I've never understood why, when most Villa fans have a respect for Everton that reflects the fact our histories are so similar, most of their fans seem to hate us. Why?

Anyway, fuck them, I would love them to go down.

They really have been stealthy in their descent to relegation, though. I'd barely noticed their descent to the shitty end of the league until recently. I think that is probably because Villa had made me want to stop ever looking at the league table, but even so, they are right in it.

Superb football and great to see that we can play football, three of the sky pundits went 0-0 and the big nosed cock went 1-0 to them, the same twats who said it was not Lambert's fault. Hope they now recognise the twat held us back so much, he made some decent signings IMO but his tactcs were totally shite and if his team talks were like his interviews, it is shocking we got so many goals this season with him in charge

Yes but even then the highlights were fucking terrible

First on MOTD but with the sort of time allocated that you'd get for a match second from last or thereabouts.

Highlights seem shorter when you score 4 in 28 minutes  ;D
