There's two reasons Scottish football is fucked - shit players and shit managers. The most successful manager in our history was Scottish.Arguably the two most successful managers in English Football history have been Scottish.

I think Dave means that he wasn't a 'manager'.

While I was slightly tongue in cheek about Scottish managers, more seriously can anyone think of any notably successful managers from the west Midlands? Not one springs to my mind. Off the top of my head Yorkshire has produced Chapman, Clough, Revie, Nicholson. The north east has Paisley, Kendall and Catterick. The Wirral has Saunders, Mercer, Cullis. Even Dagenham has Ramsey and, er, Venables. West Midlands, nothing.

Much as I love BFR, as a manager he didn't achieve much relatively. A handful of cups and and a couple of league near misses doesn't put him in the front rank of successful managers. Sort of a much less annoying equivalent of Harry Redknapp.
