No more fucking Scottish managers! There's two reasons Scottish football is fucked - shit players and shit managers.

I would extend that to British/Irish . But you are not wrong. They may have been good in the past (look at Ferguson) but right now there is no British/ Irish manager of any quality at all. They are all, without exception, of some variety of crap. We need to go foreign for winners.

David Moyes is a quality manager.

An interesting angle, looks like Tim has friends in the media. Puts forward some good points. Regardless, Lerner and Fox will not want to lose out on the financial gains of staying in the PL, so unless results start putting points on the board, it looks like it is the start of the end game for Tim. The media know it's happening, so do we.

"At Villa, this summer’s policy of buying almost exclusively young players with the emphasis on potential has so far left them 18th with four points from eight games".

Gestede - 27
Richards - 27
Sinclair - 26
Bunn - 30
Gana - 26
Amavi - 21
Ayew - 24
Crespo - 28
Veretout - 22
Traore - 19
Lescott - 33

It's hardly a bunch of untested youth is it  ???

Not just that, but the two youngest players - Amavi and Adama - have looked perhaps the best of them so far.

I'm not sure where it says he won't be sacked. All he says is that it's speculation and Randy wants a long term manager. We don't know the circumstances behind this but if he's been backed into a corner and had to say something he's hardly going to admit it anyway is he?

There's an article in t'Guardian looking at player stats that suggests Amavi has been excellent. He'll be putting in a transfer request in January no doubt.

Amavi has been excellent, considering his age and the step-up in intensity from Ligue 1 to the Premier League. The lad will play for France at some stage, he's nailed on. Layvin Kurzawa went to PSG in the summer for 20 million quid, and frankly I can't see all that much difference between the two. Amavi's still prone to the occasional defensive error - but then he's an attacking full-back. They all are. He's got real quality, though, and we will make a shitload of money on him if and when he leaves.

It's not that the players are bad, they're the best bunch overall we've had in years. It's that the manager cannot organise them in anything like a coherant system.

Exactly.
Makes me doubt anything of any possible merit in an article that trots out the lazy "inexperience" line.

You may well be right, but I'm not as sure of this as you and others sound. I hope it's true, and that when a new manager comes along he gets more out of the squad than we're currently getting, but I have a worry / sneaking suspicion that the reason we're struggling is mainly that our players aren't good enough at football.

It's a good squad, but without wishing to sound like a broken record is lacking a goalscorer. Even if (when?) a new manager comes in, that will be a constant struggle until at least January, and probably the summer.

I agree Vegas, but also whoever was in charge of signing players and didn't get a decent striker in has to take some blame. Sherwood has taken responsibility for the squad before, but now appears to be distancing himself from signing the new players.

I actually think a lot of our players our good enough to be comfortable in this division, but we look completely toothless even when we're playing well, and recently have had no plan or direction. This, surely, is down to Sherwood?

I said a few weeks ago to a mate that I thought any manager deserved 12 games with such a new squad, to develop a new team and style. The problem is that we're regressing week on week and the manager seems to have run out of a very limited pool of ideas.

Although by the end of September we had one player on five goals and one player on four goals.

Not that the above means that we don't need to worry about how many goals we are scoring, but I wonder if having say Gana, Ayew, Veretout, Westwood and Richards all on a goal each rather than a centre-forward who had scored six instead of four might be more of our issue.
