Appointing a young manager who understands the club can work see Swansea with Monk. However, Swansea have set themselves up with a very clear plan that they've been using for years now. If we had that, someone like Laursen hypothetically wouldn't be a bad shout. The fact that we don't have these things means it can't be considered until we do.
Quote from: dave.woodhall on October 12, 2015, 06:57:27 PMRodgers reminds me of the type of journeyman boxer who gets a shot at a vacant title and in the fight of his life wins. He gets beaten in his first defence by the only top-class opponent he's ever faced but from then on he gets all sorts of fights for minor titles and then against up and comers because he's a former champion. Lloyd Honeyghan?

Monk didn't take over Swansea when they was in the bottom 3 whilst 4 points adrift, did he?
On 4 February 2014, Laudrup was sacked by Swansea following a poor run of form which left the club two points clear of relegation. At the time of the decision, the team had lost six out of their last eight league games.

Monk had the advantage of having been around the club for god knows how long, had seen the philosophy built up from the foundations and being apparently a bit brighter than your stereotypical footballer has absorbed all of that along the way, so has developed a feel for what works and doesn't within that set up. Not wishing to decry what he's done but in the context of us "all" he's done is not crash a ship that was sailing nicely in relatively calm waters. The test for Monk will be what happens when they hit choppier waters, or the wind goes out of their sails. To continue that analogy, we're the inexperienced crew of a supertanker that's listing in heavy seas. If we can't find a captain that knows what he's doing soon, it's abandon ship and salvage what little we can as the whole thing goes under.
Which is what some of us were saying about MON in his last 18months. I'm sure a few of us would love that boring, dull football that got use three top 6 places and a couple of Wembley visits.
I think Rodgers is the best fit but, if not, we could surely get Pardew?

Really, my point was that we don't have the luxury or structure and we're not in a position to risk another inexperienced manager.
