Pearson is not even a likeable psycho. Even Roy Keane could occasionally make you smile, if only because the joke that his name was on the dangerous dogs register could possibly have a grain of truth in it.

Anyone who can go to ManU - or any top club - and  think they can succeed by telling midfielders never to get ahead of the ball is best avoided. There is a reason so many Everton fans were relaxed about his departure from the club.

There is always the Ginger Mourinho if we were ambitious enough to try and prize him away.

Pearson is a massive crank. A huge no from me.

Rodgers reminds me of the type of journeyman boxer who gets a shot at a vacant title and in the fight of his life wins. He gets beaten in his first defence by the only top-class opponent he's ever faced but from then on he gets all sorts of fights for minor titles and then against up and comers because he's a former champion.

Pearson is absolutely hat-stand. No thanks.

Moyes would make more sense. At Man United he was bound to fail, following who he did. Rodgers would be a better option, if given the brief to create a set up like the one he worked with at Swansea.

Although to differing degrees, none of those really grab me. I'd rather we tried something a bit more different and went for someone like Prandelli.

I agree with all of that until the last bit. I think we are too fragile at the moment to take that sort of gamble.

What do you mean by "too fragile", Chris. The way I see it we have the best squad we've had in years, not perfect but there's plenty of talent there. We just desperately need somebody to organise them. I don't see the huge risk in bringing in an experienced manager providing he's good enough. Limiting ourselves to 'Premier League experience' leaves us giving another crap manager a massive contribution to his retirement fund.

I do wonder what people want. I mean, people don't want a relegation battle but want to be entertained. Those two don't come together overnight. Short term is to have a few seasons where we're not dicking around the bottom six. Once we actually establish ourselves as a midtable club again we might be in a position to start progressing other facets. Priority number one is survival in any form it takes.

The dull Moyes thing is BS. They were a relegation candidate when he took over and he oversaw a squad that were established in the top 6 and could upset any of the big boys on their day. I would take that over anything I've seen since the MON era.

I remember Moyes having a decent side, with the likes of Baines and Pienaar combining well on the left. Sides with gumption that went to the likes of City and United and gave them plenty of it.

In contrast to MON, he left a very steady ship to Martinez and did the right thing by Everton with regards to the handover. Even got United to spunk a silly amount of cash on Fellaini.....

Turning up our nose at Moyes would be ridiculous.

Pearson is a nonsense suggestion though, Id be on for giving Sherwood more time than bringing in that clown.

I'd be in broad agreement with that.

But the time to make a bold appointment from a different league is early in the summer, to give them some input into player recruitment and to give him the pre season to bed in those new ideas.

What we would be dealing with someone coming in now is someone firefighting (again).  Lack of Prem experience in that scenario doesn't automatically mean they would fail. But it makes it harder to succeed.

I'd love Martin Laursen to be somewhere in a new set up.

Agree with that pretty much word for word.

Moyes would be ace in comparison to what we've had to put up with since MON fucked off.

A part of your armoury as a manager (of anything) is the belief you can instil in people to do things they may not initially believe they can achieve. So, to some extent the "show me your medals" (to whatever degree) mentality has an impact.

All Rodgers has is a close-but-no-cigar medal (albeit one fatal but humorous slip by Stevie Me close), and I suppose we aren't going to get an obvious medal winner - perhaps all we can aspire to is someone who has some decent credibility. Both Moyes and Rodgers have that blemish to their CVs and no medals as such,  but if I were to back a belief factor in either of those I'd put my money on Moyes.

As to any other credible candidates (and sadly that means the likes of Ancelotti) I plead ignorance to any truly substantial knowledge.

I also confess to feeling more than slightly ill at the prospect of Klopp at Anfield.

A nonsense suggestion? Last nine games of last season in the Premier League his record was  Won 7 Drew 1 Lost I . A clown? I don't think so. That record shows he must have some understanding of the game.A lot more than Sherwood has shown!

Absolutely. It's not ideal but then you have to go back to May 2014 to see what happens when you fail to act decisively. We failed to remove Lambert, gave him more time only to leave ourselves with very few options in February 2015. We ended up with Sherwood and now we find ourselves in the same situation, (early) midseason looking to replace him.

What we can't keep doing is hiring managers that are for one thing, not good enough and secondly, hiring them during the season. It's playing with fire. Prandelli would certainly have his work cut out but he has the experience and knowledge to not only get us out of this mess but the talent for us not to be looking to replace him at the end of the season. I really think he could build something sustainable that we'd all get behind.

Moyes, Rodgers and heaven forbid, Pearson are all the type of appointments that even if they managed to keep us up, we'd soon become bored of and another pension fund would get the usual healthy contribution from Aston Villa.

What was his record for the first 29 games of the season? Or are the last nine the only ones that matter?
