The notion that Mourinho doesn't use motivation is nonsense. It might not be the shouty type of motivation but he is incredibly skilled at creating situations by which he generates team unity. Both him and Ferguson are and were masters at that. And Ferguson, one the worlds most successful managers certainly wasn't against raising his voice. As Sherwood develops he'll need to figure out for himself different ways to keep his team focused. Shouting only works for so long so if he wants to be successful then he'll need to add more strings to his bow.

I guess we will just have to wait and hope Sherwood is not that stereotype.I think this is my problem with the whole thing: why don't we just appoint someone we already know isn't another British tactical dinosaur? Why take a punt on someone who may be another British tactical dinosaur? From the painfully limited experience he has it seems he could well be.

Have they announced his backroom staff?

It's just this idea that, if players are 'motivated', then results will flow directly from that source. That's just not how it works though, and motivation and tactics aren't completely separate entities either. Spurs often looked like quite a demotivated team under Sherwood, because their aimlessness and lack of plan made them incredibly vulnerable to being beaten.
Blimey - I'd hate to be in the trenches with some of you lot. Its so depressing on here I'm going to the game tomorrow so i don't have to read the match thread
Supporting villa is like having a gorgeous girlfriend who you know has got all the attributes to fulfill all your needs, satisfy all your desires and fantasies and give you a pretty exciting life. However, then you go home and find that she is still the same unadventurous woman that you were with last night, that the sex is mundane and boring and leaves you unfulfilled and lacking excitement. In the end something has to give and you fall out of love. That sums up how I feel right now, very very underwhelmed
It's great hearing all the experts on Sherwood, everyone seems to know everything about him and his coaching/managing style..The only reference we have is a few honest/in-discrete post match interviews and the testaments of a few Spurs fans who mostly seem to neglect the huge impact he has had on their academy and bringing through the spine of their current team. His results are impressive, albeit over a short period, but the point is, he improved the team, he made players play better than they were. This is exactly what we need right now, it's all about the next 13 games at the moment. So let's all get behind the manager and the team.
I'm going to drown my sorrows in kebab meat. Twice.
