The notion that Mourinho doesn't use motivation is nonsense. It might not be the shouty type of motivation but he is incredibly skilled at creating situations by which he generates team unity. Both him and Ferguson are and were masters at that. And Ferguson, one the worlds most successful managers certainly wasn't against raising his voice.

As Sherwood develops he'll need to figure out for himself different ways to keep his team focused. Shouting only works for so long so if he wants to be successful then he'll need to add more strings to his bow.

Of course he does, it was just a line which sprang to mind. It's just this idea that, if players are 'motivated', then results will flow directly from that source. That's just not how it works though, and motivation and tactics aren't completely separate entities either. Spurs often looked like quite a demotivated team under Sherwood, because their aimlessness and lack of plan made them incredibly vulnerable to being beaten.

Oh no doubt and the last thing I wanted was another british tactical dinosaur. I guess we will just have to wait and hope Sherwood is not that stereotype.
I think this is my problem with the whole thing: why don't we just appoint someone we already know isn't another British tactical dinosaur?  Why take a punt on someone who may be another British tactical dinosaur?  From the painfully limited experience he has it seems he could well be.

He wasn't my first choice either, but the answer seems to be Fox thinks motivation, ability to develop youth and being able to hit the premier league running are the most important criteria.

Again if I was CEO, Prandelli would be a very wealthy man right now and being shown properties in the midlands. But I aint and Fox to his credit, is his own man and so far made one correct tough call. I guess we just have to go with him on this one.

Have they announced his backroom staff?
Yes. He has decided to carry on with the tea lady Mrs Doris Brown from Nechells however he is going to add a expert coffee maker to strengthen the possible choices. An offer has been made to a Brazilian barista from Rio who operates under the working name of Missy Bahinas. These two will be added to by specialist biscuit, cake and cucumber sandwich makers to help at Bodymoor Heath where previously only Jacobs cream crackers have been available without any cheese. Plan is also underway to recruit an Italian Pizza base baker as Tim has discovered that players stodgy performance was mostly down to flatulence caused by half baked ideas. Plan is have  a truly international team to support this rare breed an Englishman coaching a top tier team in England.

It's taken me this long to pluck up courage to write anything - I really didn't expect such a vitriolic response - it's like TSM1 all over again.
He may not be who a lot of people wanted but he is here and we had better damned well back him or we are surely down.
Feel sorry for the bloke to be honest - no wonder no bugger wants to come here!

Will he take charge tomorrow or will it be the soon to be departed Marshall.? Even though he probably knows quite a few of the players it would be grossly unfair to blame him if we lose.

Unless of course he announces he has appointed Ray Wilkins to our coaching staff.

If he does I hope Nigel Pearson throttles him in front of the Holte!

Thing is with Spurs given how even Pochettino has decided not to play a number of the highly priced players brought in by AVB then possibly Sherwood was right about some of the players at the club. There was a feeling in some quarters that Spurs bought a lot of players and paid over the odds to get back into the CL with the Bale money. Could they have been the players he was calling out?

Supporting villa is like having a gorgeous girlfriend who you know has got all the attributes to fulfill all your needs, satisfy all your desires and fantasies and give you a pretty exciting life.

However, then you go home and find that she is still the same unadventurous woman that you were with last night, that the sex is mundane and boring and leaves you unfulfilled and lacking excitement. In the end something has to give and you fall out of love.

That sums up how I feel right now, very very underwhelmed

I didn't know Swiss Toni was a Villa fan. ;)

It's great hearing all the experts on Sherwood, everyone seems to know everything about him and his coaching/managing style..

The only reference we have is a few honest/in-discrete post match interviews and the testaments of a few Spurs fans who mostly seem to neglect the huge impact he has had on their academy and bringing through the spine of their current team.

His results are impressive, albeit over a short period, but the point is, he improved the team, he made players play better than they were.
This is exactly what we need right now, it's all about the next 13 games at the moment.

So let's all get behind the manager and the team.

You're sounding like quite the expert on Sherwood yourself. How much better did he make Spurs? They finished in exactly the same position they were in when he was hired.

I couldn't eat two lots of kebab meat, however depressed I was. I don't think my ring could take it.
