Ah, cheers Citizen. Was on the laptop earlier researching while writing my latest blog, read it then. Now on a tablet, couldn't find the link again!

No, it's not conclusive but a different view, is all.

It makes me feel a real old dinosaur that I don't particularly care what finesse a manager brings to the job.   A few home wins and some shouting and bawling from the dugout will do it for me. It's a generation thing I suppose.

But...how do you get the home wins? It's not just magic. And no generation of successful managers has thought that it is.

I think given where we are in the league and the number of games, we couldn't really afford to be choosy.  Sherwood is probably as good as what was available.
I hear this every time we appointed a new manager since O'Neill left but I don't believe it's true.  Not once in that time have I believed we've appointed the best out of what's available.

I didn't think much of Sherwood when he was in charge of Spurs and I didn't think much of him when he was linked with us.  Even less so actually because he could then be compared to a lot of other potential managers.  I'm not going to change my view now simply because he's been given the job.

Of course I want desperately for him to prove me wrong and I'll support the team regardless of how I feel about the manager.  But as much as I hope it will go well I don't think it will and I've said that after we appointed Houllier, McLeish and, to a certain extent, Lambert.  We can't keep appointing these has beens, never wases and novices and expect things to work out.

I wasn't too familiar with Sherwood until he was discussed as a possible successor to Lambert. I've now watched a couple of his press conferences on YouTube. He looks passionate and straight-talking, which is refreshing after the limp denial of the previous manager. The players could do with some impetus. I'm behind him.

Mont, I think you get the wins, home and away by motivating the players.   Buy in the staff to apply the polish to the players.

I will be first to say after hearing he was linked with our club, I thought please god no!what are we doing?but after a few hours thought I welcome him with open arms to the the elustrious establishment that is is Aston Villa. I seriously  hope that he is fully committed to the task and  the expectation that he has been blessed with. You have your chance now Mr Sherwood to prove you have what it takes. Excuse the grammar I'm  half cut. VTID

Coach? Alex Ferguson wasn't a coach. Mourinhio isn't a coach. I want a manager who can win games.

What's the big obsession with a coach? A coach belongs in the NFL.

I think the obsession is that we haven't got any and it fucking shows.
No, a coach is something obssessed with only recently. Go backs few years and they're nothing. Who's Man City or Chelsea's coach? Do they matter more than their managers? No. Blatantly not.

I think perhaps that you care too much.

Supporting villa is like having a gorgeous girlfriend who you know has got all the attributes to fulfill all your needs, satisfy all your desires and fantasies and give you a pretty exciting life.

However, then you go home and find that she is still the same unadventurous woman that you were with last night, that the sex is mundane and boring and leaves you unfulfilled and lacking excitement. In the end something has to give and you fall out of love.

That sums up how I feel right now, very very underwhelmed

Mourinho once said about motivating players that 'if they're not motivated, they shouldn't be at the club.' Obviously man-management is important, and Mourinho was doing his usual stuff there, but it's massively overrated in this country and tactics are massively underrated. Why do we think we never do anything in World Cups? Because we're not 'motivated' enough? We never learn.

I've not read this thread but I'm guessing there will a wide range of opinions from happy to give him a go to jump off the cliff I'm not going whilst he's in charge.

My view is I'd rather have a manager who has experienced a job all be it for 28 games at a club with expectations than like Lambert where he did a job before Villa with no pressure & was out of his depth.

Attacking football please Tim
