He'll liven the place up and hopefully approach games positively - that might just be all it needs for now. Could be a very different club in the summer.

And I don't mind him being a bit of an big 'ed. We need it.

There is something to the last bit. I'm sick and tired of good guys. Maybe we need a bit of a prick for a bit. He certainly wouldn't have described the last few weeks as excellent that's for damn sure.

I think that will be the litmus test for Sherwood.  I think it is guaranteed he will say stupid things and continue to pander to his media mates.  The question is whether he does it for the good of the club or for the good of his reputation.  For example Mouriniho talks shite, but it is nearly always for the good of his club.

I hope I'm wrong but he strikes me as the kind of guy who thinks we are lucky to have him. Probably because he has association with such giants of the game as Tottenham hotspurs.

I can see why you'd say that, but he's started well in the 'right thing to say' stakes.

Quote
Tim Sherwood said: "It is a great honour to manage one of the biggest clubs in English football.

"I can't wait to get started and I'm really looking forward to the challenge."

He also apparently turned down a number of other jobs in this past season. I think he will certainly respect us as a big club.

With a rumour that he may have been sounded out by Villa a short while ago, I wonder if he turned other clubs down to wait for the job to become available. Thinking, possibly, that he'd have to wait til the summer, when Randy really wanted to sack Lambert?
Possibly.
He didn't seem to fancy Albion, Palace or QPR. Youth is also important to him to and QPR don't really have a good youth policy in place, so no matter the huge wage he might have got there, he clearly didn't fancy it.

Sherwood clearly has a high opinion of himself. He's been waiting (it seems) for a big club and has deemed us to be that. He certainly seems ambitious and I hope Randy has convinced him he'll match those ambitions.

I'm flabbergasted.  Why a 3.5 year contract?
Is there a worse run club than Villa?

As so often in cases like this the answer to the question is....Small Heath.

As much as he came across as a wanker at Tottenham..

Everybody comes across as a wanker at Tottenham.

Lucky Tim. He gets to manage the greatest team the world has ever seen no matter what position we are in. Let's hope the luck rubs off. Welcome Tim and bring back some excitement.

It's okay to dislike the appointment.

But some of the hyperbole is bordering hysteria more associated with geeks when the "wrong actor" is chosen to play the 26th incarnation of Spiderman. Or currently "the new Ilya Kuryakin isn't blonde enough".

I suppose football fans are geeks too!

Woah! Rewind! They are doing a remake of The Man From UNCLE?

Ok I didn't want us to hire him and I'm very surprised we appear to have only looked at him. However he's in charge now, so I hope he surprises me and does a good job. For a start keep us up Tim.

I hope he does well but I think Randy has gone for the cheapest option again, no compensation to be paid to another club and all the talk again from the club again about bringing youngsters through.  Yes Randy that will be a lot cheaper than buying quality players which the first team is desperately short of.

As I said on the replacement thread it looks like he's the only person we've spoken to at any length which makes me very nervous.  I'll give him a chance but I think we've made ourselves look a bit stupid by just jumping in with the first guy who looked our way after Lambert went.  They seem to have panicked a bit aout not getting someone in straight away.
If you are drowning or your house is on fire you want a quick response you cannot choose your savior ( I hope he does save us)

Well there's a tanker of something just turned up.  We're about to find out if it's full of water or petrol.

Excellent analogy.

Jimbo - I acknowledge that we're not as big as we were, and I only really dreamed of the Klinnsman/Prandelli level. But there's got to be something between that level and the level of Sherwood, and our brilliant recruitment team didn't even look - they only interviewed one man.

The fact that they only interviewed him and that they clearly did it with the Lambert still in charge are the two most disappointing things for me. I don't know how it will all turn out, but we should have looked much further than we did. If we started this process two or three weeks ago then we should have spoken to others at that time too.

Do we know for a fact how many people we did or didn't speak to?

Wouldn't have been my first choice, but looking forward to seeing what he can do.  Welcome Tim, and good luck.

That's my view. Frankly I couldn't give a fuck what Spurs fans think. I know several Norwich fans who still think Lambert is amazing. Let's give the guy a chance and I hope he gets some good coaches in.
