Very much an unknown quantity. He only managed for 28 games at Spurs, but won at least 50% of them.
But he's young, hungry and ambitious.

He's 46 which by PL standards is not young. 28 games at Spurs was all he was allowed. I wonder how many he'll get at Villa?

Under Levy...well known for his patience...wonder if we'd sack him if he won half our remaining games...?

The club are excited to have secured the services of one of English football's most highly sought after managers...Really?
One of the best examples of rhetoric I've ever encountered in connection with AVFC.
Utter bollocks isn't it? Thats why hes been out of work so long and overlooked by forward thinking clubs like Southampton.

Pretty unimpressed but I'll give him a chance unless he appoints a complete scumbag as assistant.

Welcome and good luck, Tim the Enchanter.
Well we've endured Keane. It would take some doing for Timmy to beat that.

I'd like to see him bring Hoddle and Steve Clarke in to help. Then I'd have faith.

Sherwood and Hoddle famously don't get on.  Just google Sherwood, Hoddle and you will see.

I have a feeling Ugo might come in.  Sherwood brought him to Spurs.

People keep referring to these blogs and how bad tacticly he is... yet he still finished 6th. That's pretty decent going and fairly godly if you're an apparent moron too.

Well, it is made easier if you started in sixth, and only managed for 20 odd league games.

And did so well you promptly got sacked.

Part of that is down to his player relations, part down to the chairman who likes changing managers as often as he changes his socks, and partly due to Pochettino being linked and being available with all the stuff breaking down at Southampton. It wasn't down to results. I thought this from Friedel was interesting:

Quote
Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel says Sherwood showed enough in his five months in charge to suggest he has the necessary attributes to manage at the top level again.
"I thought Tim, especially in his first managerial job, conducted himself very well," Friedel, 42, told BBC Radio 5 live.
"His win percentage speaks for a lot, and I think he did really well - he can walk away from this with his head held high.
Play media

Tim Sherwood's final news conference
"He is good enough to be a manager in the Premier League, whether at Tottenham or with somebody else."
Friedel insists Sherwood retained the support of the dressing-room, despite the manager publicly criticising his team as "lacking guts and character" after the 4-0 Premier League defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 8 March.
"Not every manager is going to get along with every player at the club - that is impossible - but he got along with most of the players," Friedel continued. "I assure you there was no turmoil at the club on a day-to-day basis. All the players were fighting until the end."

I think the reaction is harsh! We all wanted Lambert out we needed a man in quickly and there isn't a great deal out there

He is driven determined and he bring confidence to the team

I think it's about time the fans got behind the team now and stopped moaning

Up the villa
The Villa fans have always been behind the team, just not the manager who was managing the team towards relegation.
And they'll be behind the team again tomorrow.

But he had Spurs' players. If he were to repeat what he did at Spurs with us, that would mean matching his predecessor's win percentage.

As I said on the replacement thread it looks like he's the only person we've spoken to at any length which makes me very nervous.  I'll give him a chance but I think we've made ourselves look a bit stupid by just jumping in with the first guy who looked our way after Lambert went.  They seem to have panicked a bit aout not getting someone in straight away.

Been on a train with shit Wi-Fi for a couple of hours, get off, get in car and this is the first thing I hear.  So, So disappointed.  I'm trying to trawl my way through this thread so apologies if this has been said but, reading the official site propaganda I saw this: "We are determined to build a football operation with a long-term vision and a commitment to youth development.

and thought, well, we've heard that before ain't we? and look where that got us.

When they come to re-write the list of definitions, the one that reads: A refusal to learn by their mistakes will be accompanied by two words...Aston Villa.

I naturally want him to do well but I can't see it.  If he does, I'll be the first on here with a grovelling apology.

Has the club not learned anything from that stupid four year Lambert contract? Why not give him the rest of the season and then think about a long term deal?

Fucking idiots.
Not sure it works well if the players know it could be only 14 games in charge. They need to believe he is there for the long haul even if he isn't if you know what I mean

I'm ok with this appointment

Only concern is the level of experience he has

Let's face it Villa Park is the graveyard of managers careers, so you need to have a certain level of arrogance to survive which he has.

I think were right to be a bit suspicious of the 'commitment to youth development', insofar as it likely means we aren't going to be spending much for a while.

On the bright, side, though, I think Sherwood may well be much more equipped to make such an approach work. He has been a successful coach for a long time, and has been in charge of the Spurs Academy which has brought through Mason, Bentaleb and Kane. I'm hoping, and I believe, he is a far more effective coach than Lambert and his lot ever were.

It's who I thought it'd be.  Reasonably happy with that.  Tried to play good football in his time at Spurs.  Played with two up top IIRC, more than happy to give him a chance.  Good luck.

Well I guess if we keep hiring people with a commitment to youth development then eventually we will get some very good youth?
