I don't quite get this 'give him a chance' meme that always goes around. I don't have a choice but to give him a chance - it's not up to me. I dislike the appointment, and if I'm proved wrong I will stop disliking it, if I'm proved right I'll continue disliking it.

So let's not give him any chance at all eh? Think that helps our situation? I dislike the appointment too but I happen to think there was no other bloody alternative and he's taken up the challenge. The latter part of your second sentence probably applies to every single fan on here!!!

I'd just like you to explain what 'giving him a chance' means, because it's the board, not me, who gives him the chance.

What do people really expect. Jesus. Crap three seasons, in the bottom three, can't score goals, falling attendances, shit owner. Everyone else distancing themselves from the club. Good luck Tim, you'll need it!!

Exactly. We are about as attractive a proposition as Katie Price. Having been told I'm her equivalent on here by one esteemed poster, I should know better than most.

Make no bones about it, we're in real danger of relegation. The fact the club have appointed a manager the majority of the supporters do not want, rate or even like is a very, very dangerous move.

Majority on here you mean?

Can people stop saying he's a young manager, he's not, he's 46. What he is is extremely inexperienced.

Is it possible to be underwhelmed but open minded or is there a contraction in there?
Would that be "contraction" as in a painful symptom of an impending birth?

Erm...pregnant pause...

I would say no.  There are things about Sherwood that make you feel positive but there are a lot of negatives floating about as well. He hasn't really had time to definitively answer the question of whether he's any good or not.

So Aston "Manager's Graveyard" Villa beckons.

All this negativity from the same people who championed the appointment of Lambert. Frankly I'd be more worried if we appointed a manger most on here were happy with. Give the geezer a chance!!

I was against the appointment of Lambert - does that mean I get to moan about Sherwood?

Really? Or was it more that you were more cautious or sceptical than others? I don't recall you ever being outwardly against him.

I was wondering whether he might bring Brad Friedel into his backroom team, and still a decent back-up keeper.  He's liked and respected at Villa, and seems to be level-headed and measured; which might curb Sherwood's rough edges.

Is it possible to be underwhelmed but open minded or is there a contradiction in there?

Erm...pregnant pause...

Well spotted. Duly corrected. Thankyou. Although some on here do appear to be having contractions.

No, I was dead against his appointment. He then said all the right things when he first got here so I got a bit more warm about it. But ultimately, my initial feeling that he was essentially another British plodder was, sadly, proven right.

Richard - I just asked a question, it wasn't meant bitchily or anything. I just genuinely don't know what that phrase means in practical terms.

If he brings in a couple of experienced heads as coaches id be a lot happier.
Would it not be better to appoint a manager who knew what he was doing himself?

Very much an unknown quantity. He only managed for 28 games at Spurs, but won at least 50% of them.
But he's young, hungry and ambitious. He played attacking football at Spurs, is well known to work well with and develop youth players (might see Grealish back now).

He can be a bit of a gobshite and no real experience over a long term...I think he'll do ok. Not my first choice but not really disappointed either..and pleased that the club acted so quickly...

Welcome Tim....

Young? He is younger than Jesus, greedy and deluded other than that he is fine.

Ok younger than Rafa, Wenger etc etc..
Deluded yes probably..he'd fit in very well on here :-)

I've got no idea like anyone on here whether anyone we rate or want was even remotely available which would be something of a sticking point. And even then, there's no guarantee they would save us.

Here, VT, TBAR, the mates I've spoken to today. Seems a fair cross section.
