I don't quite get this 'give him a chance' meme that always goes around. I don't have a choice but to give him a chance - it's not up to me. I dislike the appointment, and if I'm proved wrong I will stop disliking it, if I'm proved right I'll continue disliking it.

He get's my backing purely because he can't be as bad as Lambert.

Let's not make too many assumptions...

He has my backing as the manager- until he fucks up

Is it possible to be underwhelmed but open minded or is there a contraction in there?

Erm...pregnant pause...

Think if we signed Mourinho there would still be totally negative responses. The majority of fans was happy with the appointment of PL, who had premiership experience an accomplished back room staff (we know how that went) and had turned teams around. Sherwood is a motivator, available and straight talker. Appointing him so soon is a massive lift to the squad as they now have the "want to impress the new manager" factor and will be able to do that immediately. Welcome Tim to the greatest football club in the world .........

Very much an unknown quantity. He only managed for 28 games at Spurs, but won at least 50% of them.
But he's young, hungry and ambitious. He played attacking football at Spurs, is well known to work well with and develop youth players (might see Grealish back now).

He can be a bit of a gobshite and no real experience over a long term...I think he'll do ok. Not my first choice but not really disappointed either..and pleased that the club acted so quickly...

Welcome Tim....

Young? He is younger than Jesus, greedy and deluded other than that he is fine.

Ok younger than Rafa, Wenger etc etc..
Deluded yes probably..he'd fit in very well on here :-)

Skeptical sums it up for me...  Not over or under whelmed since he was the favorite from the start.  Will be interesting whether the mooted DOF will still come in.

What do people really expect. Jesus. Crap three seasons, in the bottom three, can't score goals, falling attendances, shit owner. Everyone else distancing themselves from the club. Good luck Tim, you'll need it!!

Lots of posts regarding negative comments made by spurs fans about Sherwood. If any club reads the comments on here about Lambert then he will probably never work in football again..!

Some people on here need a reality check. It's like some of you just want a chance to moan and aren't happy unless you can vent your frustrations and turn everything into a negative. How's about we don't bury the bloke before he's had a fucking chance. They have done exactly the right thing, moved quickly and got someone in to give us a fighting chance. Things will get better under him I guarentee that. Maybe he has made some mistakes but he is a young manager who the players will respect from his playing days. He will have my full support until I deem he has had a fair crack at it. Welcome to the Villa, boss.

So let's not give him any chance at all eh? Think that helps our situation? I dislike the appointment too but I happen to think there was no other bloody alternative and he's taken up the challenge. The latter part of your second sentence probably applies to every single fan on here!!!

Make no bones about it, we're in real danger of relegation. The fact the club have appointed a manager the majority of the supporters do not want, rate or even like is a very, very dangerous move.

Well I'm not doing cartwheels over the appointment, but considering the time of the season and how low our stock has plummeted,I suppose it's to be expected.

If he brings in a couple of experienced heads as coaches id be a lot happier.

Only just seen this news and hugely disappointed.  I can't see what he's done to deserve the chance, very little experience or track record.  I really wanted a foreign coach with a good coaching pedigree and tactical nous and now we're stuck with another Brit until he fucks up badly enough to wake Lerner up again.  I hope he proves me wrong but I think this may be close to the moment when I finally give up bothering altogether

Ive heard positive and negative stories about Sherwood, so its hard to decide whether or not he will be a good appointment.
As always I shall start by giving him the benefit of the doubt. To be fair to the club we didn't have a lot of options and when lambert was in charge I was so desperate for a change, I would have had Robin of Sherwood!
