He needs his coach from QPR....then it won't be as bad.

Well as many others, he wouldn't have been my first choice. However, beggars can't be choosers. I see a similarity to when Gregory arrived, and results wise that worked out well that season. We need galvanising massively, and he may just have the characteristics to do that. I'm sure he ll kick a few arses, and hopefully get a reaction from the players.
In any event, he HAS to be an improvement on Lambert. The three year deal is surprising, but he's here now, I will give him all my support, and hopefully he will keep us up

Beggars?  McLeish was in the top 20 best paid managers in the world, so I'm guessing Lambert would have been up there as well.

He has an impressive record of developing youth cf. bringing through the hottest property in English football right now and if his motivational powers are good enough to get Adebayor looking consistently good
Are you his mum or his agent?

Everything he said was true though.

If he can get Benteke firing again that would be splendid I must admit.

Yes a little of his Adebayor treatment on old Little Ears and we're laughing.

I have to say these are pages of negative criticism..give the man a chance..as far as I can see there were no masterminds on here with a list of viable alternatives....we start against Stoke so lets get behind everyone at Villa Park (again) and see what happens

Massively underwhelmed by the appointment and staggered by the length of the contract.  Yet again the judgement of those running the club has got to be called into question.

All that said, there's no choice but to get behind him now.  Wouldn't be surprised if another appointment on the football side is made soon.

Why are you bothered about the contract. Its only just over 2 years. Why would he join on a short term appointment?

There will be clauses about getting rid of him if we are relegated with little compensation

Being pedantic it's just over 3 years - end of the 2017/18 season

Ok, a few weeks back his name was mentioned on this site and I thought why not, it can't be any worse than what we have. However my opinion changed mainly due to many comments this week by many people on here who generally have good opinions and knowledge on other players or managers outside of B6. I then started to doubt Sherwood based on these comments.

I suppose where I stand is I have to make my own mind up based on what he does for us now and hope that everyone who doubts him are wrong. I got the whole Lambert appointment very wrong, I thought he was going to be a fantastic tactician and man manager of players. He ended up neither. I also thought MON was one of the best managers in the game and got quite caught up in the drama of Ellis going, MON signing and Randy buying the club to really question signings such as Harewood or his ability for a different approach to a game.

Welcome to Villa Tim, I hope you can get this sorry side playing the way I'm sure it can. I really believe this side at full strength could even challenge for Europe, at worst mid table.

Don't forget most on here were ecstatic when lambert was appointed

The contract is over 3 years, until 2018.

There will be conditions re relegation etc

Excellent article and one for the statto's. Bottom line in his short spell at Spurs, more points on average than AVB, but happened to play a more expansive game. Scored more goals on average, but conceded more. He'll open things up, and we do have a decent defence. I guess we can only see what will happen.

Lots of discontent with Sherwood's appointment but is it better, worse or on a par with McLeish?
McLeish was more experienced, but was a doomed appointment.

Sherwood has less experience, but probably stands a chance because he may just have enough front to pull it off.

I thought Lambert would be great. He wasn't. I think Sherwood will be a bit of a disaster. I hope I'm wrong again.
I think in the short term we'll see a burst. He did pretty well at Spurs and started very well too. I think he took them on a good run or results at one point before things evened out a little, but I could be wrong. I don't pay too much attention to that shit house of a club.
But if he can start brightly and put us on a run and we stay up without taking it to the wire and giving the lot of us heart attacks, then he'll win me round.

He's apparently arrogant and a bit of a toss piece, but to be honest, take a look around at the best managers. What are they? They're arrogant toss fucks. Perhaps we need someone in who likes the smell of their own shit. He's got a winning mentality. Lambert has all too often looked defeated before the game had kicked off.

Good luck Tim. Win us round. As with any incoming manager here, he'll start with a clean slate as far as I'm concerned. If he gets the results it'll be brilliant. I see him as a manager similar to Pardew. That could be a good thing, it might mean some struggle here and there, but it also might mean we'll click every now and again and perhaps even finish in a respectable position every now and again. He'll split the dressing room but for those who take to him, he'll get a lot (I would hope).

Disaster.

Let me be the first - Sherwood Out - it won't be too long mercifully
Get a grip

I think my grip is fine. This is a joke of an appointment but hardly surprising given track record. I think we just took another huge step towards the precipice instead using this opportunity to appoint anyone with a semblance of experience and success. Time will tell but i fear the very worst
