Underwhelmed but he's gotta be better than Lambert. Smacks of Gregory back in 1998. Will give him benefit of doubt but his inexperience is a worry. And lets face it, the club is up for sale. Contracts and appointments mean nothing once Lerner has gone. At the minute he just has to keep us up.

Ok, a few weeks back his name was mentioned on this site and I thought why not, it can't be any worse than what we have. However my opinion changed mainly due to many comments this week by many people on here who generally have good opinions and knowledge on other players or managers outside of B6. I then started to doubt Sherwood based on these comments.

I suppose where I stand is I have to make my own mind up based on what he does for us now and hope that everyone who doubts him are wrong. I got the whole Lambert appointment very wrong, I thought he was going to be a fantastic tactician and man manager of players. He ended up neither. I also thought MON was one of the best managers in the game and got quite caught up in the drama of Ellis going, MON signing and Randy buying the club to really question signings such as Harewood or his ability for a different approach to a game.

Welcome to Villa Tim, I hope you can get this sorry side playing the way I'm sure it can. I really believe this side at full strength could even challenge for Europe, at worst mid table.

The way I see it, if you had offered me Sherwood over Lambert a week ago, I would have bitten your hand off. Hindsight is a beautiful thing, but we should give him a chance and get behind him. If we stay up, none of us can complain.

Massively underwhelmed by the appointment and staggered by the length of the contract.  Yet again the judgement of those running the club has got to be called into question.

All that said, there's no choice but to get behind him now.  Wouldn't be surprised if another appointment on the football side is made soon.

Why are you bothered about the contract. Its only just over 2 years. Why would he join on a short term appointment?

There will be clauses about getting rid of him if we are relegated with little compensation

This has to be the most under qualified villa manager ever ?

Gregory came from Wycombe don't forget.

Look, despite what those Spurs blogs say, he actually kept them 6th, which for a club that has spent most of my 28 years being lower mid-table shite, isn't the worst thing to have in your CV. There are clearly faults with him, but he is here now, so let's not piss and moan about him for the next 13 games, let's give Grecian Hair Mk II our full backing. The cocky fucker may just surprise one or two of us in a positive way.

I'd like to see him bring Hoddle and Steve Clarke in to help. Then I'd have faith.
Hoddle and Sherwood don't get on with each other, so I doubt it. Sherwood even accused Hoddle of having a vendetta against him.

I am reserving comment till his coaching team is confirmed.

Fair play to the club for not pissing around.

More interesting than Lambert for sure.

This. He also has a really good reputation with young talent. I am a bit underwhelmed but I hope to help this works. It is a gamble but he must have said the right things, not that Fox and Lerner appear too difficult to fool, I suppose. Albion and QPR spoke to him but we do NOT know the reasons he didn't sign for them, could be to do with transfer control or embargoes. The backroom staff appointments will be interesting. Got to get behind him so hopefully he can galvanize them all. I would also like to think that he has learned from some of his behaviour. I know that the F.A do a media course, I would certainly nominate him to attend. I think I would have preferred Ancelloti or Pep, but I support the appointment and hope he's better than Mr mumbles.

Lots of discontent with Sherwood's appointment but is it better, worse or on a par with McLeish?

Worse. Even worse.

Well, he doesn't, but even if he is better than Lambert, that s the most meaningless praise ever. We've spent the last few months saying Lambert is awful, so by extension being better than him is no sign of quality, or having what is needed to keep us up.

I just hope he brings an experienced coach with him.

The contract is over 3 years, until 2018.

Sue Perkins and Muffin The Mule.
