In the first two seasons, and especially in the first, we scored some of the best goals I can remember any team scoring in a very long time. Some great moves, and some belting finishes. How we went from that, to so radically the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of attacking intent defies all logic.

Always loved this pic of Andi Weimann after finishing the brilliant team goal against Liverpool, with a nonplussed Downing in the background.

I think that it is my natural sense of pity or injustice that the moment he was fired I felt sorry for him. I do think he was horribly let down by senior players and administrators at the club.

I think a special mention for for my pet hate figure Gabby, who I have no doubt I would feel sorry for the moment he left.... I think he as been so poor year after year and yet continued to be given time and amazingly an new contract.  All the while chirping from the sides about "his villa" he does make my blood boil except the occasional 15 minute spell in a game every 3 months when I yet again think he is the future until my son kindly puts his arm round me buys me a bovril and recants the last 3 years that I have blanked out.

The 24 pass move at Anfield which resulted in Benteke back heeling for Weimann to score was as good a Villa goal as I've ever seen.

Also, Delph at home in the league cup against ... was it Rotherham? Lovely goal.

Delph against Chelsea, Lowton at Stoke and was it Weimann scored after his crossfield ball v Sunderland?

Yes, it was, cracking goal.

Also at Albion, the Benteke one, edge of area where he did a little side step, pushed it to the right and twatted it past Foster.

There were some good wins under his reign in fairness. I loved going to Emirates opening day start of last season and in the end convincingly beating them.

I honestly though we'd go on to have a good season as that result followed the strong end to 12/13. Predictably we lost our next three.

That was our trouble under him, any good result we achieved would quickly disintegrate within a week as we'd follow it with an awful result which set the tone for bad runs. For every 1-0 at home to Chelsea there was then a 1-4 the next week to Stoke.

And of course winning at Anfield was followed by the 8 nil at Chelsea and a scarcely believable Xmas horror show that very nearly relegated us.

That's exactly it.

We'd pull an amazing performance out of thin air, then go on an extended streak of utter shite.

I promise I'm not taking the piss, I'm finding it very strange seeing so many Villa goals in one place. It's as if I've forgotten how to watch us score.

I was staring at that clip of the Albion match and seeing the bit "Aston Villa 4" was just mindblowing.
