I promise I'm not taking the piss, I'm finding it very strange seeing so many Villa goals in one place. It's as if I've forgotten how to watch us score.

I was staring at that clip of the Albion match and seeing the bit "Aston Villa 4" was just mindblowing.

And 6-1 against Sunderland, the only chance of seeing a score like that now is on FIFA

To be honest - the Glory moment - for me was the fact that Lambert did clearly love beimng at the club and you know as a manager he felt our history. he felt at home and he would have been a legend had it worked out for him. That it hasn't is the biggest pity of his reign.

Oh and the Benteke goals. I loved as a team goal our counter-attack at Chelsea when benteke scored in the stolen game.

Hmm..I appreciate the sentiment of the thread but I can't believe the rose tinted glasses have been dug out of the drawer so early.

Being a bit of an old Bastard these days, I love nothing more than crushing the opposition in a way that shows them who's boss from minute 1 to 90 plus whatever. The kind of games where's there's only one winner and the only doubt would be how many goals we'd get.


Seriously...under Lambert,  how many of those were there there? Sunderland aside, I can only remember hanging on for grim death in the final minutes of every victory.

Sunderland and Albion at home, Arsenal away and City away in the cup. I am glad he has gone and think it was overdue but I also felt a tinge of sadness I never felt with Turner, McNeil, Venglos, O'Leary, Houllier or McLeish.

Absolutely.

A bit early for revisionism, but looking back he failed to build on the strong end to the first season.  The players he brought in that summer just didn't move us on at all.

When I saw the thread title I half expected it to be filled with more Lambert low points so credit at least for rising above that guys

Many of the games mentioned, Arsenal away last season, Chelsea home last season (seeing Jose losing it was pretty funny too!), Southampton Away last, West Brom Away last season, Liverpool away in Lambert's first season, the 6-1 against Sunderland.  And I would add the 3-2 at home to QPR.  For two reasons.  One because football is all about the high and lows, and no matter how bad it was that we were down there in the first place that seasons struggle to stay up did add a bit of drama and so the high and relief of getting this result just typifys the appeal of football.  And the other reason is the greatness at both ends of the pitch.  Guzan's brillant saves were just as crucial in getting the three points and very eye catching too.  And then the great attacking at the other end and this period will sadly be remembered as Benteke's peak at the club because I just can't see him staying beyond the summer now.

No rose tinted glasses here.  Lambert's reign was one of the worse of any Villa manager, but sometimes you need to look on the bright side before facing the harsh reality again
