The worst possible thing would be to hang on to the poorer players, even though they may be good enough to do reasonably well in the Championship.  You have to get rid of the poor players because they will be no better coming back into the PL, if not, you become a yo-yo team.

Why can't we get rid of them the summer after we go up, when they are part of a promotion winning squad and therefore at the peak of their value rather than when they are part of a relegated squad and their value is at it's lowest?

You want to build a team and team spirit during a promotion season and just add a few more quality players once promoted.

Finances are important but not as important as coming back up with a team that would compete for a top 10 place.

My first post here after looking for ages.

I'd hate the Chumpionship, Villa are one of the countries biggest clubs, we DESERVE to be top 4, top flight every season, it's almost a criminal act by the likes of Lerner that we aren't. We won the European Cup ffs, been in the top flight more than not and founded the football league.

It won't be more fun, I'll be angry at every game while we play teams who don't deserve to play against us, and at home shouldn't even grace our pitch with their mediocrity.

You won't be the first, or the last, Bitter to spend ages looking on here. But you're not obsessed with us, no siree.

I've been thinking about this, and obviously this is just my view on things. I'm 30 years old, which means I'm old enough to have seen us in every premier league season. I've seen us win trophies, get to finals, have good league seasons here and there. Been away and had some great days. Relegation won't change my love for the club, nor will it stop me from going (infrequent as it is right now but that's a side issue). My son is 3 years old now and will be 4 in March. He is starting to find an interest in football. He recognises Villa badges, and always says 'I want Villa to win' regardless who is playing on the television. A time is going to come soon where it'll be his first match at VP. It won't matter to him who we're playing, or if we play well or anything like that. And I'm starting to think if it doesn't matter to him, then I shouldn't be upset about us being relegated. It'll still be the Villa.

I've not given up hope of us staying up. It is still in our hands, just!

I'm more concerned what the last few years have done to our future fan base.

The stench of inadequacy is always strong with a Stripey twat and the word Villa never far from his lips.

Blose and Albion fans spend far more time banging on about us winning the European Cup in 1982 (and the fact that we allegedly never stop going on about it) than we do.

Presumably if they had ever won a European trophy (stop laughing at the back there) they would have just said "what oh chaps, jolly good show" and then never mentioned it again. Bearing in mind the Albion had a memorial dinner to celebrate the anniversary of an away win at Old Trafford.

From a totally selfish point of veiw it will be all over for me if we went down.  For last few seasons I've sold extra tickets to lads at work and the Villa Cash accumulated has saved me approx £100 on my season ticket. A lot of these lads are Polish or support lower league clubs and just want to catch a prem game, but a couple are Villa fans (and they've already lost interest). I doubt any of them will want to watch Championship matches.
Also I doubt I'll be able to watch the away games on the internet I mean who shows Championship streams?
The best players will leave it we will be left with the dross who have long contracts like Westwood.

I don't think we would be back for a long time.

That's a good point about away steams, I hadn't thought of that.

We have been out of the top flight 12 seasons in our 141 year history. This time though it will be catastrophic if we go down as we are forfeiting over  £100 million. The clubs who survive eg: Crystal Palace, Leicester, Swansea etc will all leapfrog our once mighty club.
That is the reality of Randy Lerner's penny pinching experiment. Thanks a bunch Randy.

That's a good point about away steams, I hadn't thought of that.

I mentioned the bit about no streams for away games somewhere else, and someone said there are streams for Championship matches. So last weekend while I was waiting for the  Southampton game I had a quick mosey about for Championship streams. I think there was just one game covered. So the prospect for away games next season will be commentary on WM.    *shudder*

I dread the thought of us going down

And if anyone thinks that on a wet night in November we will get 25,000 to watch us play Brentford then they are mistaken

Also if we do get relegated, you watch the  number of Staff that work at the Villa that are made redundant. I bet FOX and co. have already done the calculations....
