Dont get all this hope that we would fare any better in the Championship than in the premier league

You think that if we get relegated then next season we'll only win one of our first 15 matches? I call bullshit.

So we would be left with what we have ... confidence further knocked by a relegation on high wages so no new signings.

The wages would be in line with our income. So there almost certainly would be new signings. And even if they weren't, the squad that we currently have is better than any squad in the Championship currently.

Also when did we last easily skittle any of the lower league sides in cup competitions how many times have we been embarrassed in recent years ??

Well, we beat both lower league teams that we played this season and we've been rubbish. Last season we beat both Championship teams that we played. And we were rubbish last season as well.

That semi final feeling as we left Wembley in April just seems like a lifetime ago.

If we go down it is because we are not good enough.  The worst possible thing would be to hang on to the poorer players, even though they may be good enough to do reasonably well in the Championship.  You have to get rid of the poor players because they will be no better coming back into the PL, if not, you become a yo-yo team.  Relegation must mean rebuilding under a bit less pressure.

It would be shit. Even if we pissed the title i'd hate being in division 2. I hated it in 87/88. Villa should never be out the top flight.
True that

Why can't we get rid of them the summer after we go up, when they are part of a promotion winning squad and therefore at the peak of their value rather than when they are part of a relegated squad and their value is at it's lowest?

I'd still hate it and think it was shit. However a bit of me can't help thinking it may be what we need to just get rid of the losing mentality around the club.

And sort of in reply to OMVF, one thing we've hardly ever seen of just about every player in the squad is them playing with confidence on a regular basis. They may be totally different players without the pressure of constantly fighting the drop.

For what it's worth I think we'd come straight back up comfortably, it would still be shit though.

Yes definitely just so Gerry Sinstadt could once again utter the immortal words 'huge crowds followed them round the country roaring them onto promotion.'

I'd enjoy travelling to new grounds for a season and then suddenly realise we're still there come August the following year, long term it would be shit but its shit now and has been for years, there's not a team i think we have a chance of beating.Sorry for being selfish but I want to enjoy myself again and if that means a season of unpredictable results and travelling to real grounds with real supporters instead of glory hunting arseholes and paying £55 for the privalige of getting thumped then count me in.....but only for one season, then I'd like to come back, thanks very much, we've been a very naughty club and we'd like to come back now.

I am looking forward to it. Something has to give. The last 5 years have been demoralisingly every bloody week. I would take my lad down a fair bit, there would be some decent ticket deals to do so, we might win now and again, our younger players would have a chance to grow in confidence (which is such a huge factor) and we might find an identity of play and style while we are at it.

I genuinely think we would come straight back too, IF we kept hold of the manager and majority of the players.

My first post here after looking for ages.

I'd hate the Chumpionship, Villa are one of the countries biggest clubs, we DESERVE to be top 4, top flight every season, it's almost a criminal act by the likes of Lerner that we aren't. We won the European Cup ffs, been in the top flight more than not and founded the football league.

It won't be more fun, I'll be angry at every game while we play teams who don't deserve to play against us, and at home shouldn't even grace our pitch with their mediocrity.

How? Because I love this club and I am passionate about where I feel we really should be?

Too many have lowered their expectations too far, but I won't.

If you're going to register on a football club's messageboard it's a good idea not to use an e mail address that traces right back to another club's board.
