Surely there must be an out of work manager/ coach with the nous to appreciate the shambles that is Aston Villa and step in to guide us to safety. If they are going to stick to their guns Nero style at least bring in an assistant with the experience ,ability and maybe most important the strengh of character to help.

Apologies for not reading the preceding 16 pages, but I thought our general play was okay.  The sort of football which, against lesser opposition, would punish them.  The reality is though, it is toothless football played in areas where we cannot hurt the opposition.  I would definitely not abolish the change in style, however I would jettison the manager.  Seriously:  Bringing in BFR for the remaining 5 months.

A 75 year old who hasn't been involved with a club since 1999?

It's starting to remind me of the end of Sven's England career when everyone wanted him out, not least the FA, but they couldn't afford to pay him up and he wasn't going to turn down the compo.

I think that's the sad truth unfortunately, which makes the contract extension at the start of the season even more baffling.

Although I don't think it's the money, they just can't be arsed going through all that again.

I'm not sure which of the two is worse. What I am sure of is the fact they should act because I don't think he will ever be a success with us.

Such a shame, really thought we'd turned a corner last week all the news out of bh was positive then this. All these shit records don't normally bother me but this one today about no villa team in history going six league games without a goal is shameful if correct.I haven't felt this low since Bradford, they won't sack him, he won't resign and no one gives a shit - his post match comments suggest he's also in denial.

Turned the corner last week. Really? We were playing Bournemouth reserves and they outplayed us first half.

I havent felt this low since 1987

Tomorrow all eyes will be on the transfer window. By Tuesday people will have calmed down a bit and will be saying "well it was Arsenal away." On Friday some will predict in the pre match thread that we'll get a result against Chelsea because of Mourinho's record against us. Then on Saturday night we'll all feel this fucking misery again. And he'll still be here.

Exactly, I think someone said on another thread it's like Groundhog Day.

The four year contract did and now does send out the wrong message though, regardless of the money involved.

It can't be just money. I think its the realisation they have gone down every avenue to pick a manager and failed.

Lerner doesn't have the stomach for another farcical manager search, and I'm not sure the fans do either. We've got ourselves into a right old pickle.

the simple truth now is that this can't go on. Not because there are or might be three clubs even more awful  than us and relegation might be avoided, but  because Lambert can't go on publically humiliating and tarnishing the club  any longer. We could be doing better, we should be doing better, even allowing for our reduced circumstances, but it's patently obvious he can't do any better, and each week he is allowed to stay, somehow the status of this great club is diminished a little bit further.

We seem to have no shame.

This is what's known in football as Newcastle syndrome.

Quote
Paul Lambert bemoaned the concession of poor goals in the 5-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Boss Lambert was unhappy with the way Villa defended after the break as they went down at the Emirates Stadium.

The manager felt it could have been a very different game if his side had scored with two of their best chances - Andi Weimann just before the break and Christian Benteke just after it.

But the boss wasn't happy with the way his team gave away the Gunners goals in the second period.

He said: "The big chance was Andi's header but the keeper has made a great save.

"Christian had a great chance too. He should have scored.

"I said before we came here that we'd make chances but you have to take them.

"For about 60-65 minutes of that game, we were well in it.

"The goals after that were really poor. That's the disappointing thing.

"I didn't think it was a 5-0 game. But you can't capitulate the way we did to go five-down.

"We came into the game on the back of a good win last weekend. But to lose the goals the way we did was really disappointing.

"We had chances to get the goals. You have to take them, especially when you come to places like this. You have to be more clinical that what we were.

"It's something we have to keep working on.

"For the second goal, we had the ball near their penalty area. They've still got to run 80 yards to score. That's the disappointing thing when you're letting that happen.

"For the third goal, from our corner you get hit for a goal. That's not right.

"There were goals that I wasn't happy with."

Villa now face title-chasers Chelsea in B6 next Saturday.

He added: "That's the nature of the game, the nature of the Premier League.

"Every match you play is really big and really tough.

"It's a game you try and win. It's another really good side, a side who are going for the title."

What a load of bollox.

The manager felt it could have been a very different game if his side had scored with two of their best chances - Andi Weimann just before the break and Christian Benteke just after it. Half chances at best.

"For about 60-65 minutes of that game, we were well in it. We were 3 nil down you plank.

"The goals after that were really poor. That's the disappointing thing. Clinical goals I would call them Paul. Things practiced on the training ground.

"It's something we have to keep working on. You've had long enough. Now do one.

Just overtook the team coach on M1. They are all relaxed watching the movies on their individual screens no doubt Lambert gave them an excellent talk before they set off!
