When we were discussing what needed to change for us to push on into the CL positions, the replacement of Petrov came up regularly.

Well I disagreed then as I do now, except in the long-term. I remember when the orthodox view on here (and mine was the same) was that we needed to sign another striker and go back to 4-4-2. We did, it was Heskey, and our brilliant form with the 4-3-3/4-5-1 petered out fast.

Ah yes, the Steve Sidwell-inspired run that ended as soon as he was taken out of the side.

Who'd have thought it.

Not so much him as the system he played in. Though he didn't play too badly (Everton springs to mind).

I liked his actions when standing in as a ball-boy.

I wonder if his new contract has a get out clause if the worse happens, I guess it has.

To be fair he has hardly pulled up any trees since signing the new contract.  I like Delph but his form has hit another bad patch this season having had his best season so far last time out.  Am surprised that he at least has not scored from midfield.

Never been convinced by him TBH. I think the total ineptitude of our midfield generally the last 2 years has someone made him look good. As Ive said before if he was that good he would have a few more goals and assists to his name. Signed a new contract with us due to a lack of alternatives, i suspect

"No chance of us being relegated" according to Delph on Football Focus. If that's not complacency then I don't know what is. Also gives other teams their team talk for them. Sometimes it's best to say nothing.
