I'm 100% not arsed either way

I'd rather he stayed and that he wanted to stay. He'll comfortably be better than most other players of that ilk in the Championship.

But if he thinks that he's good enough that the level on offer in the Championship is beneath him then he's wrong, and as long as we're suitably compensated then best of luck to him back in Spain.

Not good enough so won't be missed. 3 very nice goals aside the only times he made me sit up and notice was at Tottenham last season when for 10 minutes or so he (and Bacuna and I think Ayew) looked brilliant. He reminded me of Luke Moore coming on at Fulham in the (again, I think) 3-3 and I thought both had cracked it. Sadly for both it was a one off.

Thought he was a good player who looked a class above most of the dross in our squad

Think it was one of his earliest games where he was running rings around the Chelsea defence at VP. Seem to recall we got beat but could have been a great player with different manager and tactics

The problem with Gil is that for every game like that he had a game like Stoke where he took a bit of a beating early on and disappeared for an hour.

Has no effect on most games, a 1 in 10 player. Get some cash, get him off the wage bill, move on.

No pace, no strength, and what skill he has completely unsuited to English football. Poor.

Our problem across the board for years.  Players who cannot impose themselves on a game and flatter ultimately to deceive.

Scored some good goals (not enough), looked good at times but again not enough and I think if we are going to sign new players to get us promoted he is one of the players we should let go.

Aston Villa look set to see plenty of their underperforming stars from last season out of the exit door at the club this summer.

One such player could be Carles Gil – with a La Liga side said to be interested in the player.

El Desmarque is reporting that Celta Vigo are keen on signing the player this summer and they also report his agent Federico Marco as making it clear that Gil will not be playing in the Championship next season and that Celta have made an approach for the player:

“His intention is not to play in the Championship and look for teams in the Premier League and La Liga.

“We have not spoken with Celta, but in the past we have been negotiating and we know he is a player to their liking. They made an offer for him, but the Aston Villa did not accept it."

Does his agent moonlight as a cup final banner writer?

I don't actually give a toss whether or not he quite has the willpower to impose himself on games where he's up against it: the lower standard should mean that there will be plenty of games in the Championship where the game will come to him. In those cases, we could use his guile and technical ability. For the slogfests, it's up to our new manager to make sure that he picks the right XI.

That being said, I won't be upset if we can get a couple of million pounds for him to head back to Spain.

I hate to rain on his agents parade but if Celta Vigo don't match our valuation then Carles will be playing in the championship next season whether he likes it or not. Given performances last season I doubt anyone in the Premier League will be taking a punt on him. Like others not arsed either way he's a decent player when he's not sulking.

I think his main problem was that when he played he only made the midfield even lighter and smaller than it already was. We desperately need some size and strength in midfield.

I don't rate him that highly, but Barry bannan has just been names in the team of the season so I reckon he could be effective in the right set up
