I'm surprised, and disappointed, we haven't seen more of Gil recently.

I'm worried that it's because Sherwood likes 44bleeding2 and there's no sensible place for someone like Gil (or Grealish) then. Not out and out wingers and can't track back as someone like Wiemann will.

Hasn't Gil played his entire career on the wing?

He may well have played wide, but I wouldn't have thought as a winger in 442 in Spanish football.

Wide right as one of the front 3 in a 433 or the Mick McCarthy special in a 4312 I would guess based on what we saw of him under Lambert.

Saturday was the first time since the Newcastle match that Sherwood played a flat 4-4-2 though. Gil would fit just as well as Zog or Weimann into the teams he's been picking.

I just think that TS assumes Gil is a 'luxury' player and at a time like this we need grafters to grind out the points. I'd play him without question as he can be an exciting player and create things.

That goes against his 'rather have one win and two defeats than three draws' philosophy that we've seen.

I Think I was shocked to see how easily the Stoke defence eased him off the ball, and he just went further back into the midfield trying to get time on the ball which he didn't.  In today's game all of our opponent s will have seen this.  I hope he is trying to come to terms with this part of Premiership, and think think T S  wants solid and reliable at the moment.

he has solid and reliable in Joe Cole. His gut is solid and you can rely on him to either be injured or puffing after 5mins.

If Sherwood plays him tonight (and I don't think he will) Joey Barton will tackle him very hard in the first ten minutes just to see how he reacts.
I suspect Mr Sherwood will use Sanchez to combat any tricks Barton might get up to. It is also time for Benteke to turn in a match winning performance. For a man of his size and power he is capable of offering a lot more than he has been giving.

I'd go all out to wind Barton up - every player. He seems to lose it in the important games.

I  don't quite get the recent Benteke bashing. He scored on Saturday, scored the winner against Albion with a very cool penalty under the circumstances and scored two very good goals against Sunderland. Others need to chip in as well, we can't look to him all the time.

It's more his general demenour and seeming lack of interest and effort.
