This thread freaks me out. When viewed from the main directory it shortens to:

"Re: Carles Gil - now off"

Which makes my heart skip a beat every time :)

He'll be off if we go down.  So we'd better not go down!

He reminds me of Carbone. If he makes half the impact  that Benny did, we'll  be fine.

Aston Villa: Carles Gil wants to make the fans smile again

Aston Villa trickster Gil has also thanked the club's supporters for his warm welcome to Birmingham

    16:00, 23 February 2015
    By Gregg Evans

Carles Gil wants to be the player who puts a smile back on the Aston Villa fans’ faces.

The silky-skilled Spaniard has made a big impact since his arrival from Valencia but he’s yet to taste success in the league with his new club.

In five Premier League outings, Gil has witnessed five defeats, although he’s largely been Villa’s stand-out performer.

Against Stoke on Saturday the 22-year-old was unusually out of sync but that will only increase his desire to succeed.

“I like to give people pleasure by the way I play and I would like to thank the fans for the way they have welcomed me,” he said.

“I really appreciate it because I felt at home right from the start.

“It’s important for any player - and for the team - to have the fans behind you.”

Supporters have introduced themselves to the midfielder around Birmingham which has helped Gil settle in.

A large Spanish flag was hoisted above fans during the recent trip to Hull City while home followers greet the corner-kick taker with warm applause during set plays.

“I’ve only been here for a month but I have a feeling big things are going to happen,” he added.

“We are not going through an easy stage at the moment but I have a lot of confidence in the team.

“There are some very good players here and I believe we will start winning matches and moving up the table.

“Having a new manager should make the team better because it’s a fresh start for everyone. It’s strange for me because Paul Lambert brought me here only last month. But I want to impress the new manager now.”

Gil scored a stunning goal in the FA Cup fourth round win over Bournemouth and set up Jores Okore to help Villa end an eleven-hour goal drought in the 2-1 win over Chelsea.

“We are not going through an easy stage at the moment but I have a lot of confidence in the team." - Carlos Gil

I don't want to be around when we go through a difficult stage.

I think he will. Given our injury crisis we don't have much option.

Unfathomable that he is left on the bench when Weimann gets picked.

He doesn't have the English vocab, let alone Cockney, to have a row with Tiger Tim.

What we know for sure is that Timeh has said it is up to the Gil to impress him in training. It is also most likely based on various reports that said training involves full scale matches and Carles may well think this is strange, particularly when he sees players getting injured. If I was good with a nifty trick or two the like of which we have seen him deliver, I would not fancy being tackled by Clark or Baker, to be honest.

You can't blame Timeh. He has been brought in after the transfer window has closed and has to work with what he has got. They have to display their commitment on the training pitch or they won't get much playing time.

Gil played poorly in the first half against Stoke, he was way too deep and kept losing the ball. He hasnt had a chance since. He needs to play further forward just off the front two

Then why put him on the bench? If he's persona non grata with the manager to the extent that he refuses to play him, then why waste a space on the bench with him? That rumour doesn't make sense to me (without wanting to shoot you, TLS!).

He'd absolutely destroy QPRs plodding defence. If the lads approach tomorrow right it could be like Sunderland the other year.
