If Downing had been on the receiving end of just one if those tackles Jack Grealish got he would have been stretchered off and been out for a couple of months. What Clattenberg allowed to happen over not one but a clearly orchestrated series of heavy fouls on a young, special player is one of the factors why promising young superstars of the future fall by the wayside. They get targeted and they get no protection.
