The next time England play Pakistan at cricket would we want to hear and condone chants of "Fuck the Taliban"?

If the Pakistan fans had a history of chanting 'up the Taliban' then sure, why not.
Indeed. In fact the Pakistan supporters would welcome that chant.

Fuck a duck.

The Boot Inn Lapworth. Now there's a pub that disappeared up it's rear end a while ago.

Quite. Very few of the British-Pakistanis I know wouldn't cheer along a chant which tells the terrorist riffraff trying to take over their country to fuck off.

The big test will be the game in Dublin next June, particularly after what happened there last time.

My uncle used to work for RTE and covered that game. He said the venom and hatred was beyond anything he had ever seen.

England fans singing "Fuck the IRA" during the match apparently.

Roy Hodgson on that chant, "If anyone was offended, I'm sure the FA would like to apologise to them."  Who is going to be offended?

I'm not, I think it's pathetic though and kind of irrelevant these days.

Just read the link, and it is him although I reckon his name is Hemingham not Hemingway

We were both selling trucks back in the mid eighties, nice fella actually

When I've met him he's come across as an arse of the first order. "Villa banned us because they're jealous they haven't got a band" was his line.

Well it was back in the mid eighties, people can change into arses given time

We think we have it bad, but Portsmouth last won an FA Cup match in 2010, when it was the semi-final and they were in the top flight. They are now in the fourth tier (urgh) and lost last night to Aldershot (which is something we can empathise with on more than one level.)

I like Ronay, but he really missed the point here. The English have every reason to be pissed off with armchair radical Celtic fans singing 'up the Ra' at EVERY match. If some of them also have bad views about Unionist terrorism then we'll challenge those when we come to them, but I'm for anything which pisses off those horrible, murder-loving, ratbag tosspots.

Would the Celtic fans who sing those songs even support Scotland?  I can't say I heard the particular song in mention on the TV and I'm not even sure which song it is, as it's obviously not the 'No Surrender' song which is heard at most England matches.

At the end of the day, those kind of songs have no place at a football ground though and I would expect the FA could face some kind of action.

More likely to be The Boot in Sutton, the local AVSC pick up from there for away games.

Well, you'd find fairly few Rangers fans going to a Scotland match at Celtic Park, though other non-Celtic fans would probably go. However, I don't doubt that the Ra-lovers were there too, and while I agree that these songs are unsavoury, you ought to hear what usually does the rounds up here. Among Rangers fans, for instance, I think the two most popular are 'Could you go a chicken supper, Bobby Sands?' and 'Up to your knees in Fenian blood', which may explain why the English have got themselves twisted with self-hatred but, so far, nobody in Scotland has shown much sign of giving a shit.

It's a good job they did, he'd have been as welcome as a nose in the Trinity on 03.03.03.

I lived and worked up in Glasgow a couple of years back Monty and very soon decided to give both clubs a wide berth while I was there due to the kind of stuff you are talking about.

My brother in law is a massive Rangers fan and mason to boot. I wind him up no end when he stays with us as my wife is a catholic. A few rosary beads and the odd piccy of the pope are always left hanging around.

Still think the IRA song was out of order though.
