The big test will be the game in Dublin next June, particularly after what happened there last time.

England fans singing "Fuck the IRA" during the match apparently.

Roy Hodgson on that chant, "If anyone was offended, I'm sure the FA would like to apologise to them."  Who is going to be offended?

Exactly.  Only the IRA, who can indeed go fuck themselves.

Not exactly at all. If England officials seen it appropriate to stop the band playing the tune to prevent the chant being sung then obviously they must have surmised how antagonistic the singing might appear at Celtic Park to some in the crowd who might react in a different way.  Had the game been played at Ibrox they could have all sang it together the band could have played along and everyone happy.  The truth is though it would hardly have got an airing. There's nothing wrong at all with the sentiment "Fuck the IRA" but it's not exactly something we want to hear about at a sporting event where it's obvious that some in the crowd might have sympathies with it.

The next time England play Pakistan at cricket would we want to hear and condone chants of "Fuck the Taliban"?

Shouldn't the chant have been "Fuck the Continuity IRA"?

No surrender is a C18, BNP song. People have died in these conflicts. Taking the piss is one thing. As the dominant player (England) keeping politics out of it might be better sometimes.

Lots of people on here start going mental about the IRA with good reason. Don't then agree that its a good stick to beat people with.

They weren't singing no surrender, they were singing Fuck the IRA, wih a catchy brass section. Even Slab Murphy would have been tapping his feet.

If the Pakistan fans had a history of chanting 'up the Taliban' then sure, why not.

The chant is offensive enough, but that bloody band is even more so.

Bloody hell, it was only Trevor Francis that is responsible for their inception.  Should have known, really. Beelzebub begot brass band abortion.

Who are the England band?

When I've met him he's come across as an arse of the first order. "Villa banned us because they're jealous they haven't got a band" was his line.
