I quite like Basel, they keep beating scummy English teams and also lost when they played us.

Their fans a annoying arseholes.  A few on the radio earlier backing Rodgers  stance on Sturridge by saying they don't care about England they care about Liverpool. They forget that Sturridge  probably cares very much about England and has a choice on the club he plays for!

Wasn't there a rule at some point that if you missed the internationals through injury you could not play in the following fixture for your club.?
If clubs dictate who can and cannot play internationally the whole thing falls apart quickly.

I'm with Liverpool on this one. He's their player and they're paying him. Besides, he's been out for five weeks. Surely he should be fit and playing for them before he get's called up for England.

If Rodgers doesn't think that he is fit then he won't be playing him and there won't be any issue.

If he does think he's fit then there's no reason why he shouldn't be picked for England.

Besides, think how amusing it would be if it gets aggravated AGAIN while he was on international duty.

I agree, providing he doesn't play 90 minutes at the weekend.  I think Hodgson bowing to a club manager sets a dangerous precedent if he is actually fit to play against Albion.

Indeed, if he's picked on saturday having been left out then a dangerous precedent has been set.

If Sturridge starts at the weekend it makes a mockery of the whole system, but also allows Hodgson to hopefully stick with the same line up that beat the Swiss and allow Wellbeck to play down the middle, showing how effective someone playing for the team rather than their own glory can be. Sturridge could struggle to be any more than a sub from here on if it works again.

Strange to pick 3 left backs and 3 centre backs. I presume Stones will play right back, but still there must be a right full back out there, and Shawcross should be in the squad.

If Vlaar plays on Saturday would we then want him going off to join up with the Dutch?

Could be wrong here, but I thought that his fitness or ability to participate is decided by the England staff? Isn't he still meant to travel down with the squad and be assessed by the national team physio's? That the club manager could have a say but ultimately the right fell to national team?

They only asses his fitness if the player is named in the squad and as Roy hasn't named him then that wont happen

on a side issue its good to see Clyne and of course Delph in the squad

We should have signed Clyne years back. Good player. So is Gibbs though. Both better than Baines in my opinion who has to be the most over-rated player in history! But are they not all left backs?

I don't think that Clyne has ever played anywhere other than right-back.

Its about time Clyne got a call up tbh, he's been consistently good for a couple of years now, I'd rather have him playing for england than Johnson anyway.

I also like Jonjo Shelvey, he deserves another chance at international level.
