Why are we talking about the Welsh county of Salop in a thread about Brummies?

It's true there's a lot of Welsh folk knocking around there but having grown up in Shrewsbury I can tell you the proximity to the border generates greater anti-Welsh sentiment than if you're further away from the buggers. Well, it did in me at least.

Sounds like the average St Andrews crowd
Lol superb. I was having a scrap with my mate once can't remember what about. I banged my head on a house brick.  I shouted "arrrgh tharrurt" he said "soz I didn't mean it" we stopped our fighting and went to his moms to have a look at the lump on me 'ead. She give us both a slap so we ran off back to our game of football after my mate called his mom a "fuckin knob".....good times.
We were about 12 at the time btw!

Tottenham get to use the national stadium for a season maybe longer. West ham get the deal of a lifetime to use the olympic stadium which was built using taxpayers money. It's just not fair on the rest of the country.A  London club gets an unfair advantage yet again.

I have drunk a fair amount of Norwegian lager and it is ok provided that (a) you get it from the supermarket where it is marginally less expensive, (b) it is served cold with a large plate of fatty, heavily-salted Norwegian foods (c) you have been walking up and down mountains all day and are totally shagged out

I can put up with anything in these circumstances, even my wife's family who support Spurs

I can't believe mom, as opposed to mum, hasn't been mentioned.

I have lost a lot of my accent having lived all over but the only bit I consciously gave up was tuth instead of tooth. I was so widely ridiculed at university by both the public schoolboys and normal but non- brummy types that I caved in.  Conversely, when I tell my family I'm going to Birmingham rather than to town they give me a look that says 'you've changed'. Island, outdoor, all round the Wrekin and others I stopped using because people didn't understand me.

Villa and the way we speak are both things that meant more to me when I left, a bit of home to hold onto. The first match I got to after I left a Brum, I filled up when the Holte End sang 'Alan Roit, Roit, Roit, Roit'.

Back off Brummies. The Wrekin's in the largest landlocked county in England and if that's not something to be proud of then I'm not sure what pride means. Wellington till I die etc.

Mr Ealing, I am fully aware that there is no conical hill in the middle of Birmingham. It's still common parlance in our fine city. Probably because my whole estate went to Barmouth for a week during Austin fortnight and the route took us past it.

Damon, fame and its trappings have clearly gone to your head. I am a massive beer snob, but in a country where beer costs multiples of £10 per pint it is socially responsible to drink meths. And there is no excuse for being able to harbour fond thoughts for anyone whose family has any tolerance of Spurs, never mind supporting them.

If they ever take the piss, simply mention finishing third in a two horse race, behind Arsenal. Shhhh!

Well, speaking for myself, I come from an nth generation Villa family, but my dad had to leave Birmingham for work reasons when I was 5 and we never moved back. Shropshire in 1988-1996 was as close as the family ever got, but I was at university in Exeter by then, and I flew the nest permanently and moved to London in 1993 and have been there ever since.

Still have huge family ties in the area, and love travelling up to see them and the Villa, but otherwise I'm a Brummie by birth only.

When people ask me where I'm from, I say I'm everywhere and nowhere baby...

And as for the previous bit of off-topic on accents, mine is all over the bleeding place - bits of Midlands, North, South West and South East. Involuntarily pick up the accent of whomever I'm talking to usually. Which is an embarrassing habit when spotted.
I do that. It's a bit weird isn't it?  I've only
got to drive through somewhere and I start thinking like the local accent in my head...... I know. I'll get my coat.

I'm mostly in-different, it was important to get the takeover done so that the club can move forward.  But I doubt that the new owner has much interest in the football side of things, which in itself wouldn't be a problem if I thought that he would just take care of the business side of thing and let the manager or football people do their work.  But I fear that he just sees Villa as a play thing, or has unrealistic expectations.  At least Learner had the experience of owning a Sporting brand, and for the most part stayed in the background.

The club is a bit of a mess right now anyway.  I hope with the takeover we will get a bit of direction, but we still seem a long way off that.

Sorry, can we get back on topic. I had a mate who moved house. He told me he lived in Tyes Lane. I couldn't find it in the A to Z (for young people, that's a written sat nav), so I tried Ties Lane, but no luck. Turned out to be Toys Lane. He was from Northfield.
