Is it worth having a separate 'reminiscing about old Brummie phrases & colloquialisms' thread and get this one back on to the takeover?

Crash the rocks, or crash the jews, if it was jelly sweets

Scallops from the chippy, never seen them called scallops outside of Brum.

2s up, Duck arse and nub end, all used around the smokers corner at school.

Scallops 'n' scraps, please. Also, roe in batter (fresh or tinned), which I believe is frowned upon in some parts of these isles.

as a kid in Aston, we used to know chip shop 'scraps' as scratchings.

Roe.....MMMMMMMMM !!!
yeah  the chip shop bloke used to give us scratchings , it was just bits of batter out the deep oil that had dropped of the fish

So no one else says island?

Explains why folk think I've gone round the wrekin...

Everywhere else, a traffic island is that sort of refuge place in the middle of the road at crossing points that allows you to cross a busy road in two stages.

Not sure that "forrid" is purely a Brummie thing, the little girl in the nursery rhyme had a curl right in the middle of hers and forehead does not rhyme with horrid.

Great idea.  You can make that one.  Everyone's a winner.

The Takeover Thread has been taken over. Savour the irony and spark a spliff.

H&V, like nature, abhors a vacuum and this particular black hole is approaching singularity.

Here is a musical interlude to take our minds off it.

We are just ticking over, idling, waiting for some news to break then the thread will take off again.  In the meantime we are Les Tricoteuses chatting at the foot of the guillotine.

I like to think Our Tone will be reading this thread and brushing up on his Brummie. I await his statement in the FT.

"We (that's me) are delighted to present Roberto Di Matteo as our new manager. Now get yourselves off down the outdoor opposite the Tyburn island for a few cans of Ansells mild and a bag 'o' scallops and scratchings," said Mr Xia, before adding: "Crashes!"

He'll be calling Di Matteo 'Ar kid' not our new manager though.

Les Tricoteuses? Are you making these up? Certainly never heard that one in Erdington / Kingstanding area. Did it mean 'goal hangers'?

No, no. Gaol hangers used a different method of execution entirely.

Anyway, can we please, please get this thread back on topic. So - did anyone else say arly barley when having a scrap and wanting to either concede or just take a time out?
