I am with you cdbully.  I am going to bed happy that there is change afoot.  Anything is better than the perpetuation of Lerner misery. Anything.

The fact that they're Chinese doesn't automatically make them dodgy. And even if they are dodgy then remember our last was as honest as the day is long and he turned us into a bloody shambles.
I'm not sure anyone is suggesting that just because he's chinese that they're dodgy. If the most information you can find about someone is from the actual press release announcing their acquisition of the club, though, then people are naturally going to be suspicious.

I bet that applies to plenty of owners who mostly do their business outside of English-speaking countries.

Doing your business outside English speaking countries doesn't mean you have no internet presence, not even search results.
You can read all about the biggest glutamic company in China (second biggest in the world) in links further up the thread. Why are you so worried about our new owner? At some point, he bought a really big MSG company that's now losing a lot of money. He's clearly a whizz. Sorry but that's all the info I could find on his conglomerate.

I really don't think it does. The internet is not an english-only tool.

Well, has anyone plugged in his Chinese name into a Chinese search engine and found a similarly-sparse landscape? I'm just saying (and it's nothing more than the obvious) that there are probably plenty of companies who operate exclusively in China, who don't give a toss about putting themselves out there in English, or at least not yet.

Not exactly the most trustworthy of sources, but some worrying questions about company ownership here.

http://www.oftenpartisan.co.uk/archives/15414/another-chinese-takeaway.html

This should not be dismissed just because it's SHA.  I've heard this guy on Tom Ross' show a few times and he's been based over here for a while and done plenty of research on the business over there.

This doesn't feel right to me.

I thought I'd be doing cartwheels the day Lerner finally sold but I'm not, glad to see the back of him but apprehensive about what's ahead. That might be because i've got the dentist first thing in the morning.

Do this recon group even have a web site, for example?

I am not making any judgements based on the fact they're Chinese, it's just there aren't generally that many companies with 35,000 employees about whom there is nothing on the internet.

And the thought of Randy being the gatekeeper to keep shysters out scares the shit out of me.

teleperformance sell themselves as the biggest company that you've never heard of and they are huge. SAP also. So, that itself in isolation isn't the worry for me.

Posted on another site:

Apparently this is a conversation about Tony Xia where he has been accused of exaggerating his qualifications to get to Harvard.

internet presence - http://www.chinalotus.com.cn/

Obviously that's only the company that they've named in the press releases but recon themselves not having a website isn't a problem so long as all the various companies they are involved with do.

Another - http://www.txgis.com/about.asp?a=1

What's really interesting in that one is:

Quote

From where I see it:

We needed a change, we were drifting towards oblivion under Randy. It can't possibly be any worse than what we've had to endure for the last 4 seasons or so. We also, as fans, got what we wanted. We wanted Lerner out, and we got him out. We wanted a new owner, and so we got it. I know that Brummies are regarded from the outside world as being miserable, but we have wanted this change for a good few years, so we can't really complain about it.

Whereas I understand the sceptical outlook that most of us have after the last few seasons, this is arguably the most important close season we have had for many years. I'm going to wait on my judgement of this until we see a statement of intent from the new board, if the last remaining bits of paperwork are completed successfully.

Compared to Randy, I think that almost anything could be argued as being better. Villa will have my support no matter what happens. I'm cautiously excited.

Am I the only one who is sceptical that this new owner has been a fan for so long?

Need to get him on a supporters Q&A forum to work out his credentials, I'd go for..

Who were Villa's first European opponents ?

What was unique about Villa's 2-2 draw with Leicester City in 1976 ?

And the creme de la creme (not found on Google)..

How much does a Villa Chippy Special cost ?

Sorted.

Why didn't Barry take the penalty would be one I'd throw at Dr Tony.

its easy to come on here and give it the negative, as you can in time to come on here and say "i told you so" but where was lerner taking us other than div 1 so lets put the egos away, and give the new owner some licence.
