I love how nobody had even heard of this bloke 2 hours ago but people have already decided he's not good enough for Aston Villa!

Personal opinion but  I am bothered by how much financial clout is behind an owner or consortium, not because I want someone to come in an explode their pants buying a Robinho type player for 45m but because it gives a good insight into how they intend to finance things. We have fallen off a cliff and landed on a ledge 6 foot down. With the right owner coming in we can get back up.

Im concerned someone is going to get us on the cheap and then try and get us back up using the parachute money and leveraged funds to make a quick buck in 1-2 years. Im not financially savvy enough to understand fully but if we are bought by that sort of owner and then we dont get back up, what would stop a consortium or hedge fund asset stripping us to get their money back and then going into administration or folding? If loans were taken out against BMH or VP couldnt they just cut losses and walk away?

The Nashville Predators.

They sound absolutely shite.

The important question though, is he rich?

No the important question is "Is he competent"

We've had a rich owner throwing vast amounts of money at it and that turned out well didn't it?

I wouldn't class Lerner as rich in PL terms anymore, or for the last few years now. There must be at least half a dozen wealthier owners in the league, I'm sure even Mike Ashley's wealth is something like double Lerner's, and they are also relegation fodder.

Well he was "considerably richer than you" compared to the vast majority of owners in 2006, which coupled with your second statement pretty much confirms the point.  It's reached the point where to "do a Chelsea / Man City" these days you've got to be in the top 100 richest people on the planet or a sovereign wealth fund.

The alternative is to be reasonably wealthy and actually have an idea what your supposed to be doing, or be smart enough to employ people who do.  Just like Swansea, Southampton, Stoke, and Crystal Palace have done over the last few years. I know that they've just won the league, but I'll leave Leicester off that list until we see how they're doing in a couple of seasons.  They've probably got a bigger challenge than any of the other clubs mentioned, as they've got a weight of expectation now.

Maybe I'm greedy, but I want someone with wealth at Lerner's level as a bare minimum, preferably higher, plus be savvy with it and employ top level staff in all areas, and they are the sort likely to command fairly hefty salaries.

This for me too. We could end up doing a Portsmouth if we aren't careful. What we need is a bona fide billionaire who knows what success feels like. Not some chancer who manages to persuade a couple of banks to lend him some money against our good name and history but has never really achieved anything of note. That individual will only be in it for personal gain and enrichment. When the money dries up they'd be off to the next project leaving us plummeting through the pyramid. A full on, Forbes-style billionaire will have a reputation to uphold and wouldn't allow us to slide into oblivion.

And so it goes on. Personally I do not want another American anywhere near Villa.

Do you have a preferred nationality? Because I don't see how the owners nationality has any bearing on their ability to buy or run a club.
Well said that man.

One is Thai but they might just be trying to curry favour with one, or both,  the others.
BANNED!!

Not sure about a ban but certainly some punitive action should be taken

I'd go for a Chinese burn or maybe the water torture.

Arley Barley. (a playground expression meaning Time Out) on the mainstream punnery but The Goat pub at Tydd Gote deep in the fens has become a Chinese restaurant called The Meh Man.

I was in Cambridge visiting friends at Easter and we went to a pub which has been taken over by a Chinese fella - on the edge of the city as my friends live in Landbeach. Although the bloke is from NE China he only does Chinese food once a week so I had a very nice pie and mash.

The Main worry with this one is the team were initially in New Jersey, were moved to Nashville and are currently looking into whether to relocate to the US Canadian border, sounds like a right cock up if you are used to watching football in Birmingham this fella could try to relocate us somewhere else.

Nashville Predators are far from shite this season. Win one more game and they are in the western playoff final. Win that and they are in the Stanley cup. So the equivalent of being in the quarter finals for the champions league. I'd take that at villa
