I think there may have been a classic bit of subliminal auto suggestion there.  The eye catches the name of Mons triggering subconscious connections with WW1 and the ever thoughtful Richard allows Somme to surface.

Well,  possibly either that or I was a tad tactless with the benefit of hindsight, Brian.

So, after years of whingeing that the club doesn't communicate, when they do it's just flannel and a ruse.

Gosh.

Was thinking the same thing. Hollis is doing his best to keep fans aware of the situation and its either bullshit or not good enough. It's all a ploy to stop a protest or sell tickets. I get skepticism and conspiracy theories but I get the impression some of our fans sit at home with tin foil hats on their heads.

Whenever I see MonsXI post I think of the battle, not the Manager. Doesn't excuse Richard though who deserves a good thwacking with a rolled up copy of Exchange & Mart. :)

I don't think Hollis is a liar, but all other things being equal I also don't believe that Lerner is holding out for the 'best' owner. With the financial position he's in, he'll take whatever bid comes his way. The rest is just flannel.

That statement suggests things are relatively imminent.

If that was the case, wouldn't he have sold it by now?

I'll tell you one thing, Sir Brian would be well aware of the negotiations on the sale of the club. Do you really think he'd still be here if Hollis was bullshitting?

I think they're just waiting for Howard Hodgson to finish colouring in his business plan.

"There has been no shortage of parties who would like to own Aston Villa but our negotiations are now with those parties that we believe will have the passion and ambition to return the Club to winning the highest honours in European football."

Whats the point of saying that really? Why not just say we are still trying to sell the club.

They are trying to make out as if the new owners want to win the champions league, when we'd just be happy to get promotion in all honesty. Its like that pillock Paul Faulkners statement all over again!

This....can't see fault in issuing it. It's kept us informed and explained why no new manager has been appointed as yet...I've no problem with it at all and makes a change from the stoney silence that has been the usual of late..

I'm going to hold them to this. If we haven't won the Champions League by 2020, I'll be right bothered.

Aston Villa Football Club can confirm Chairman Steve Hollis remains in active negotiations over the sale of the Club.

Chairman Steve Hollis said: "We are in very constructive negotiations which could lead to the sale of the Club to a new Owner.

"There has been no shortage of parties who would like to own Aston Villa but our negotiations are now with those parties that we believe will have the passion and ambition to return the Club to winning the highest honours in European football.

"The appointment of the manager is at this time inextricably linked to the current negotiations."

The Club has consulted with supporter representatives over the annual lap of appreciation and understand in the current circumstances that would not be appropriate.

Throughout a bitterly disappointing campaign our supporters have been the one positive and the Club would like to thank them all for their tremendous support.

which could lead to the sale of the club

hhhmmm

Aye.  Lerner and the rest of the chimps tea party fouling up Villa Park haven't worried about that for the past five years, so it sounds a tad disingenuous now.
