Lambert's seemingly got more lives than a cat, but this squad - barring any major investment - might be a hot tin roof too far.

You want a day out at Wembley? Who are we? Carlisle or someone?

Carlisle have more chance

They have probably spent more in transfer fees than us so far this close season.

I'd normally be at Walsall, not this year. I am dreading this season. Feels like we've only just got over the last one and now it's happening again.

I'm not even bothering with the Parma friendly. Looking forward to kick-off at Stoke and trying to delude myself that everything will be alright.  I've got a feeling Lambert will be the first managerial casualty.  I honestly thought we'd hi trock bottom at Spurs on the last day. Based on pre-season, maybe the worst is yet to come.

My thoughts exactly.  I think September will be the final straw.

it is a toss up between Lambert and Allardyce who goes first in my opinion

If we dont start well then by the end of September that could be it for Lambert.

I am no admirer of Keane but if Lambert does go in the autumn Keane could squeeze some points out of the squad. I think the sheer relief of being able to draw a line under the bomb squad era would be beneficial for a month or two until the reality of the paucity of top quality players reasserts its effect.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that I want Lambert out by September because that'll mean we're doing badly. howeevr, if it does start badly i hope the situation isn't left to drift. I also hope that the new manager isn't apponted from within.

Bloody heck you lot, this place is almost as bad as sitting in a cold dark room listening to Leonard Cohen. :(

Reasons to be cheerful 123........
1. IF we are relegated in nine months time we will be the biggest and best supported Championship club.
2. With a bit of luck SHA will be relegated too so we wont have to play them.
3. We scrape into the play offs thereby getting a day out at Wembly.

So pleased to read this. Hopefully this will help with my depression!

In an attempt to be positive I think the months up to Christmas will be the worst before the depth and character of Aston Villa starts to assert itself and with or without Lambert, Keane or Lerner, we, the fans will start the long march out if this bad, dark place.
You've said before that we've risen in the past and we'll rise again, Brian, and I too share the belief, or hope, that we'll eventually emerge from this mess. But I fear it won't be by Christmas. The present situation reminds me of O'Leary's last season: an ineffectual manager, an alarming lack of quality in the squad, fans resigned to failure. I'll still go to the majority of games, I expect, but it'll be out of habit rather than with any enthusiasm and as much to meet family and friends as to watch a football match.

My guess is that Lerner will wait until November before he removes Lambert if things start badly (that's if a sale hasn't gone through by then).

I think if we get relegated, at least there would be lots of new grounds to go to.

Also, some good away days like Fulham, Wigan, Brentford (with the pub on each corner of the ground), Forest....

I suspect the replacement is already 'within'
